John Giammarco wants to promote high school basketball in Western Pennsylvania;
Terrelle Pryor will help this weekend.
Giammarco is running the Pittsburgh High School Basketball Classic Sunday at Duquesne University's Palumbo Center. It is a three-game event, and one of the big draws is Pryor, the all-everything football/basketball star at Jeannette.
Pryor and Jeannette will play in the 7 p.m. game against Aliquippa. At 3, Upper St. Clair meets Chartiers Valley. American Christian Academy near Philadelphia plays Notre Dame Prep (Mass.) at 5. All three can be seen live on PCN television.
The Jeannette-Aliquippa contest is a rematch of the WPIAL Class AA title game last season, and most of the players on the court also knocked heads in a memorable WPIAL football semifinal in November. Jeannette won, 70-48, in the highest-scoring game in WPIAL history.
"Terrelle Pryor sells tickets," Giammarco said. "He's one of the best athletes to ever come through Western Pennsylvania. The clock is starting to wind down for Western Pennsylvania people to see him play. I'm honored he's going to be part of this event."
