JO4H wanted to start a thread just so we could keep track of how we did versus other programs.

Seems to me like a time that we all might just go back and rep him. We now have a thread with nearly 1100 posts. How many of these have focused on someone at Ohio State? Almost none.

Greenies for you buddy!

The same is partially true for UM since there is a separate UM news thread and certain players have their own thread too. Manningham for example is missing from this thread.

Good point, but it makes we tOSU fans feel vindicated about how we felt when we were being beaten down by eSpin and the media. It's funny how it seems that any transgression by tOSU gets a lot more air time than some of the things mentioned in here that are much more serious and legit.

To see the sheer number of State Penn football players listed is staggering, yet JoePa is still forgiven as being the kindly old grandfather type.

At the time this thread began, there was article after article making large about Ohio State being out of control. Usually, they tied together the last two years of Cooper's term, when discipline did shift downward, and the first year of Tressel's term and tried to make it seem like eight players had been busted in a short-term. IIRC, half of those arrests were DUI-related stuff.

Even during a bowl game, we had a non-stop assault on our coaches and players by the ESPiN boys.

Meanwhile, all manner of crap was going on elsewhere and receiving little comparative coverage, including players shooting other folks, etc. Problems that cast a negative light on media darling coaches (e.g., Ferentz) were ignored. There were no similar outcries to investigate issues at USC (Bush, the subsidized rent issue, etc), even after Ohio State had been cleared by two NCAA investigations. Only when Andy Geiger resigned did the crap stop.

This thread did a lot to show Buckeye fans that they could hold their heads up high and that media bullcrap was just that. OK, Henton gets caught in a sting operation. In the end, it turns out that the police really have no evidence except the sting cop's word, despite the fact that they recorded the conversation. To get the matter finalized, he pleaded out to a lesser offense.

So, how does the arrest record of Ohio State athletes compare to Penn State? Or Tennessee? Or Iowa? Or, well, you pick any major program?

Ohio State compares favorably to just about any program in America. And because a thread like this one exists, Buckeye fans have the information they need to refute the type of incoherent, inaccurate smears Ohio State experienced during that disgusting attack.

This thread is not a comprehensive archive of all football players or major sports athletes in college who have been arrested or charged with a crime. So, the fact that threads exist elsewhere is not really indicative that Ohio State has something to hide. Quite the contrary. Read through this thread. We don't have guys firing guns in nightclubs, beating up people in bars, hustling drug dealers, killing others, etc.

I would argue that this thread is indeed representative of the fact that Ohio State runs an extremely clean program. As an alumni and former professor, I am very proud of them.

the purpose of this threas was once upon a time everything was out of control and people were calling for heads, coaches, ads etc. this thread was my way of laying out there what happens nationwide. this thread doesnt include everything and in reality is not updated that well compared to many of the other ones. this thread does provide us with a few things:

1-a source to search through in one spot for information
2-a view on the environment of the world we live in, more so the student athletes we love to watch.
3-it shows us that bad things happen everywhere, people make bad choices, they face them later.
4-it gives us as a community some sort of measuring stick.

this stick is what i wanted to point out, was it a proud time to be a buckeye? maybe if you had a lot of pride and could wade through, today as we are on a higher road, one of academic, atheletic and off field success we can joke about this, at certain times it was not true. i think it is important to look at this thread for a view on the world. have we had legal incidents, yes. will we have more, yes. are they commonplace at theosu, no. that being said, no one wants kids or anyone to get in trouble.

i didnt start the thread in an attempt to dirty the world to make theosu look clean. it was to show where others stand, i feel that the university needs to be a beacon. if the desire is to do something great- lets do it on the field, in the class room and in the community...
