Michael Floyd is nearing legendary status at his high school, but will that translate to Division I college football?




ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The open cafeteria doors are inviting. The alternative is not. "How long is this going to take?" Michael Floyd asks.
The lunch-period rush convenes all around him. Floyd would prefer to join it. The collective, hormonal miasma would firewall him from interlopers. He wouldn't be strictly anonymous, smiling and horse-collaring friends from behind. But he wouldn't be in demand.
Instead, Mike Scanlan, his football coach, buttonholes him. A visitor wants to talk. Floyd offers a fleeting, blank stare, then relents. He is a five-star receiver recruit who has done scores of interviews. On this day he is polite but detached.
In short, Michael Floyd seems kind of tired of it all.
