Camels unfazed by runner-up finishes
BY JAMES WEBER | JWEBER@COMMUNITYPRESS.COM
FRANKFORT, Ky. - Being tackled by a future Ohio State linebacker sounds like a good excuse, but Billy Fuller offered none.
Fuller, a Campbell County senior, finished as state runner-up in the 285-pound division Feb. 16 in the state wrestling meet at the Frankfort Convention Center.
He lost in a third-period fall to Anthony Bailey of Fort Knox, the top-ranked grappler in the state and a 2007 runner-up.
"I worked hard all season," Fuller said. "I conditioned as good as I could, and I went out there and did as much as I could. I made it to the finals which I always wanted to do."
Fuller finished with a 61-2 record and won his second state medal.
He was set back in the finals by a bruised knee, which he suffered in his semifinal win over Jordan Whiting of Trinity.
Whiting, who signed to play football for Ohio State earlier this month, threw Fuller out of bounds and into some empty chairs surrounding the mat.
Fuller was on the floor for several minutes and eventually walked off under his own power. Whiting was disqualified for an illegal throw, but was apologetic to the Camels afterward...
