COLUMBUS, Ohio ? Ohio State swept the Big Ten Golfer of the Week awards with
Carling Coffing of the women?s team and
Patrick Simard of the men?s team earning the honors, the conference announced Wednesday. It is the first weekly award for both. The last time a Buckeye earned the weekly laurels were Dana Je in April 2006 for the women and
Colin Biles in April 2005 for the men.
Coffing has led the Buckeyes in both of their tournaments so far this spring. After tying for 45th at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge (Feb. 11-13), the native of Middletown, Ohio, closed the Central District Invitational (Feb. 18-19) with two rounds of 72 to tie for third with a score of 5-over 221. She improved her tournament average by four strokes between the two events and the tie for third was her second-highest finish of her career. Coffing now leads the team in stroke average with 75.8 in 11 rounds this season.
