If you're close, then adding a Richards is a no brainer. If you're just close to making the playoffs, you're better bringing in a couple guys for 3.5 Mil each. Of course, I don't know who's available for free agency after this year.

At this point in the Jackets history, I would.
They need someone to set up Nash and Z. Richards hasn't had anyone with anywhere NEAR the talent of those two.
He hasn't had a good season since he was on the same line as St. Louis (the cup year). There's a reason for that, they've surrounded him with guys that SUCK because they mortgaged their future for that cup run.
IF the package columbus is putting together for him is true and accurate, that is most assuredly NOT what the CBJ would be doing here.
The 7M cap hit isn't that bad since Fedorov (6.1) is moving on after this season.
And yes Columbus would be right there in the East. Getting to play teams like Washingon, NYR, NYI and Philly would be a big benefit, not to mention Florida and Atlanta.
