Playoff hockey is never run and gun open hockey. Playoff hockey is completely different from regular season hockey. Always has been. That is why it always takes young players one playoff series to get adjusted to it. In the playoffs, what you need are three consistent lines and a hot goaltender.
Penguins are also 8-1-1 this year against the West.
Penguins Vs. West
Anaheim - W - 5-4 (Anaheim is different now, though)
@ Minnesota - W - 4-2
@ Colorado - L - 2-3
Dallas - W - 4-1
Phoenix - W - 3-1
@ Edmonton - W - 4-2
@ Calgary - W - 3-2 SO
@ Vancouver - W - 2-1 SO
LA Kings - W - 4-2
San Jose - L - 1-2 SO (It should be noted, though, that the Pens played this game on February 24th. They played against Ottawa on February 23rd. San Jose had not played a game since February 21st).
Do not confuse Western Conference dominance in the NBA for Western Conference dominance in the NHL. 3 of the last 4 Stanley Cup winners have come from the Eastern Conference.
