Backup Ausmus gets Opening Day nod
Astros' reserve backstop makes start on strength of experience

SAN DIEGO -- J.R. Towles is still considered the Astros' No. 1 catcher, but on Monday, he took a back seat to Brad Ausmus, who received the Opening Day start behind the plate. Manager Cecil Cooper cited two main reasons for choosing Ausmus over Towles for the opener at PETCO Park -- comfort and experience.
