That being said, I'm envious as hell that you, and not I, were at the 1986 Masters. To this day, from a historical perspective, it's one of the greatest events in the history of sports. Seriously though, those people at Augusta are incredible and classy fans. There is only reason that they would ever "cheer" for the misfortunes of a great prior champion like Seve Ballesteros. Not that they didn't like Seve, but it was all about the "Jack."

Yeah. It was crazy. I spent Saturday and Sunday all day at the edge of the 15th green ( I was younger then and could out run the old guys to the choice spots
). When Jack sank his eagle it sounded like the Swamp in '97. Total nuts out there. My buddy had an illegal radio with him, and as Jack started his charge, he would relay the info. As the scoreboard did not keep up as quickly, the circle of crowd near us would turn their heads toward us like the old EF Hutton commercial whenever he heard a score. Jack kept sinking them and everyone else was choking. As the roars grew nearer, a Marshal walked up to us and we though we were going to be launched, but he said in an anxious voice "How's the Bear doing...how's he doing?" We told him the latest, and then he just walked away with a fist pump and an "All right!"
So I got to stay and watch history. My dad was so damn happy to find out that I road tripped out there, he was almost crying when I called him. I brought him some Augusta National gear and he wore his Masters cap to the hospital the next year when he passed away.
I tell you Woody, I was blessed to have lucked into the right time and place.
