Plain Dealer Reporter

If Garfield Heights junior Carl "Tay" Jones wasn't already on the radar screen of Ohio State University basketball coach Thad Matta, he may be now.
Matta was in Memorial Hall, the former home of University of Akron basketball, on Saturday. He was among personnel representing nearly 200 college basketball programs. They're scouting prospects at any of 48 area gymnasiums during the third annual Applebee's King (LeBron) James Shooting Stars Classic.
Matta, West Virginia coach Bob Huggins and others were treated to a 31-point effort by Jones, a 5-11 guard. Jones, canning two 3-point shots and displaying a variety of moves to the basket, scored 21 of his points during a seven-minute span of the second half, then scored six more points in overtime as his Ohio Basketball Club edged The Family (Detroit), 59-55, in a 17-and-under game.

Jones, the lone junior among five players named to The Plain Dealer's seven-county 2007-08 all-star team, has fielded scholarship offers from more than 15 Division I programs. Ohio State has not made an offer, and for now, Jones is giving serious consideration to offers from Iowa and St. Joseph (Pa.).
