Carmona out, Laffey still safe Starter to miss a month. Westbrook's replacement to remain on the roster

CLEVELAND: Good news for Aaron Laffey is bad news for Fausto Carmona. That's the way it works in baseball.
Carmona will be out for an estimated four weeks after injuring his hip in the third inning Friday night against the Texas Rangers.
''Fausto suffered a mild strain of his left hip,'' head trainer Lonnie Soloff said Sunday after medical specialists studied an MRI scan of the affected area. ''He will be out approximately four weeks and will not play catch for seven days. If he is asymptomatic after that, he will begin exercise and start a throwing program.''
In other words, once Carmona is pain free when he walks briskly or negotiates stairs, he will be permitted to initiate a throwing program wherein he plays catch from ever-expanding distances.
''That would be followed by a mound program, then we would build him up in simulated games,'' Soloff said. ''Fausto already has started several games, so his arm is in condition. Because of that, we hope that he will be able to climb back on the horse very quickly.''
