On "give them academic schollies" - aside from the perception of gaming the system, it surely places an extraordinary burden on the players so treated. Most (all?) academic scholarships have requirements for maintaining a very high level of excellence in the classroom. Add that to the significant schedule demands as a full-time squad or roster player, a great deal to carry.
Last, if this was such a great idea for Miami in the '90's why do they no longer do such a thing today?
