Wesley Johnson to Syracuse

There were rumors last week, when Iowa State transfer Wesley Johnson had yet to schedule the only visit he said he had planned, to Ohio State, that something might be holding up the process. Then Johnson stopped answering calls from the 614.
About the same time, explanations began leaking from three of the four schools Johnson was considering -- Ohio State, Pittsburgh, Syracuse and West Virginia -- of why they had suddenly lost interest in him.
Face-saving on their part? It wouldn?t be the first time in the history of recruiting.
The fact is, Johnson visited Syracuse during the weekend and committed to the Orange last night without visiting any of the other three schools.
It leaves OSU coach Thad Matta with one scholarship left for the 2008 class, one he conceivably could use to pay for Kosta Koufos? early departure when the NCAA announces its Academic Progress Rate penalties next spring.
