Coaches are starting to notice Pike's Teague

By Jody Demling ? jdemling@courier-journal.com ? July 13, 2008

Marquis Teague has the name and the game to back up the attention he received from college basketball coaches last week at the Kentucky HoopFest.
The 6-foot-1 Pike sophomore-to-be has been billed as the next star from Indianapolis, which has recently produced Greg Oden, Mike Conley, Eric Gordon and other top players.
Teague, who played for the Spiece Indy Heat 15 team at HoopFest, is the brother of Wake Forest star Jeff Teague, and the youngster is special.
"That's just how we play in my state," Teague said with a smile after a game in which he had 20 points and several eye-catching plays in front of Ohio State coach Thad Matta, Purdue coach Matt Painter, Cincinnati coach Mick Cronin and assistants from Indiana, Louisville, Duke, Xavier and others.

"It's all happened fast," said Teague, who said Cincinnati, Ohio State, Indiana, Purdue and Wake Forest have offered scholarships. U of L, Illinois, Texas, Kentucky and others have also shown interest.
"I don't have a number one," he said.
