When Michigan State quarterback Brian Hoyer visited the Spartans' football headquarters in summers past to watch film, he said the place would be empty. This summer, not only did the senior from St. Ignatius High School have company in his football studies, the Spartans now have a new place to watch that film.

The $15.5 million, 25,000-square-foot Skandalaris Football Center sounds like it rivals Ohio State's Woody Hayes Athletic Center in opulence. Literally and figuratively, Michigan State has been laying a foundation for a new kind of football program. While the building was already in the works, the program's new attitude began with the hiring of second-year coach Mark Dantonio. Remember, with Dantonio by his side as defensive coordinator, Jim Tressel went 14-0 and won a national title in his second season at Ohio State.
