Here's a slightly different take on ranking teams based on their final rankings in every AP poll since 1936, or final Coaches poll since 1950 (or average of the two). The teams are given a % based on how many years they make the final poll, and an average for all of those rankings. Dividing the average ranking by the percentage yields the overall score, with the lower number being the better result.
##. Team..........Score...% in final poll...Avg final ranking
01. Oklahoma......10.56........68...........7.18
02. Notre Dame....11.32........72...........8.15
03. TSUN..........11.75........77...........9.05
04. Alabama.......12.06........66...........7.96
05. Ohio State....12.21........70...........8.55
06. Nebraska......13.85........62...........8.59
07. Southern Cal..15.00........62...........9.30
08. Texas.........15.48........62...........9.60
09. Tennessee.....16.32........63..........10.28
10. Penn State....17.90........59..........10.56
11. Florida St....18.26........50...........9.13
12. Miami, Fl.....21.16........45...........9.52
13. UCLA..........22.53........45..........10.14
14. LSU...........22.96........45..........10.33
15. Auburn........23.04........49..........11.29
