Trail Blazers rookie center Greg Oden made headlines in February when he publicly endorsed Illinois Sen. Barack Obama for president. Now, less than a month away from Election Day, Oden is poised to use his national popularity and celebrity to help lift the Democratic presidential nominee to victory.
Oden plans to take part in a series of commercials today in support of Obama and said he would do "anything else they can come up with" in the coming weeks. Oden was asked last month to campaign for Obama in battleground state Ohio, where Oden went to college, but the 20-year-old had to decline because he was preparing for training camp.
"It's my first time voting and he's the guy I latched onto and I really like," Oden said of Obama. "He's just a guy that I like. Honestly, I feel that he can best run this country. And it's not about all his policies, because if you think about it, I would probably, with my tax bracket, need to vote Republican. But he's the guy I really like and I'm going to vote for."
