No, I wasn't joking, just pointing out a possibility. I can see Dantonio being concerned about his players getting the news that their Rose Bowl chances have ended just before taking the field at Happy Valley, and getting a little down because of it. Acting like the TSUN loss is good for MSU (which is more believeable by him stating it ahead of time), and reminding them that they can still win a share of the Big Ten crown would be what I expect to be the core of his last pre-game talk to the team.
As far as the two things being unlikely to happen together, they're about as likely as what LSU needed to get into the NC game last year. Before that game, Les Miles had the presser to deny his taking the TSUN job, in order to keep his players focused on Tennessee.
As a reminder, besides winning his CCG over Tennessee, Les also needed Pitt over WVU (about as likely as TSUN over tOSU this week), and Oklahoma over Mizzou (more likely than MSU/PSU, but out of his control).
