Ironically, my first thought when I read the whole thing was that Chris Cornell, who I have had a huge man crush on since I bought Soundgarden's Louder Than Love back in 1989, would be an even worse choice than Kroeger.

Everything Cornell touches turns to gold; he's just an absolutely amazing song writer. His voice, however, isn't what it used to be, no thanks to the twenty years he spent screaming like he did when he was with Soundgarden and doing his other projects, like Temple of the Dog. Cornell still has sounded OK recently on the studio recordings for his solo albums and the albums he recorded with Audioslave, but he's fallen somewhere between merely passable to completely unlistenable as a live performer for the past six or seven years.

Cornell couldn't pull anything remotely close to Plant's range today, and that would absolutely ruin a large part of Led Zeppelin's sound to me.

I already suffered through a Blaze Bailey led Iron Maiden. Please don't make me go through that again.
