Crew ponders possible losses
Expansion teams want Schmid; key players in limbo

MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. -- Crew investor-operator Clark Hunt was operating under the "midnight rule" Sunday night, citing his belief that NFL coach Marty Schottenheimer was on to something when he said a victory could be celebrated or a loss dwelled upon only until 11:59 p.m. on the day it occurred.
It's safe to say the rest of the Crew wasn't playing by any such rule after winning the first MLS Cup championship in franchise history with a 3-1 victory over the New York Red Bulls.
Early in the evening, adult beverages were quaffed from the Cup trophy by players and fans during an impromptu victory party at the team hotel. The revelry continued late into the night after Clark and the Cup had both retired for the evening.
