Our pitching by committee looked very good against the Flyers. I'm not so sure anyone pitched their way into the rotation though just because each guys was limited to a couple of innings at the most. Offensively, we left too many damn people on base. We need someone to step up and be clutch from the plate when we have ducks on the pond. But a win is win.....

Mike Rabin Knocks in Three Runs in 4-1 Buckeye Victory vs. Dayton

Freshmen Jason Zoeller and Adam Schneider each go 3-for-4 in midweek win

OF Mike Rabin knocked in two runs on a sixth-inning single to put the Buckeyes on top.

Box Score

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State centerfielder Mike Rabin batted in two runs with a single in the sixth to break a 1-1 tie and then knocked in another in the eighth inning as the Buckeyes beat Dayton 4-1 in non-conference action Wednesday night at Bill Davis Stadium. Ohio State mounted a two-out rally to score twice in the bottom of the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 3-1 lead. Rabin, a junior from West Chester, Ohio (Lakota East) singled to right to score both runs. Brett Garrard (Sr., Brownsburg, Ind./Brownburg) got things started with a two-out single to left-center field before Jason Zoeller (Fr., Verona, Pa./Shady Side Academy) followed with a single through the left side. The runners both moved into scoring position on a passed ball before Rabin knocked in his 16th and 17th RBI to move into a tie with Jedidiah Stephen (So., Caldwell, Ohio/Shenandoah) for the team lead.

Rabin plated Zoeller in the sixth for the fourth run of the game. Zoeller singled through the right side with one out and moved to second on a wild pitch before Rabin's second hit of the game. It was Rabin's team-leading 18th RBI of the season.

Zoeller was 3-for-4, scored twice and had the fourth RBI for the Buckeyes, while Adam Schneider (Fr., Agoura Hills, Calif./Agoura) also was 3-for-4. Jacob Howell (Fr., Ashland, Ohio/Ashland) and Drew Anderson (Jr., Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) also added a pair of hits as the Buckeyes out-hit the Flyers 15-7.

Cody Caughenbaugh (So., Newark, Ohio/Licking Valley) scored the Buckeyes first run of the game in the second inning after getting on base with walk. He scored from second on a ground out by Zoeller after moving to second on a fielder's choice and to third after a wild pitch.

Dayton tied the game in the top of the fourth after a one-out double by Chad Liter. He moved to third on a single through the right side and then scored on a second single through the right side by Brandon Godzik.

The Buckeyes went with their typical midweek protocol on the mound, throwing five pitchers in preparation for league play on the weekend. Jeffrey Carroll (Fr., Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) got the start and went three innings, leaving the game with a 1-0 lead, but Trey Fausnaugh (Fr., Circleville, Ohio/Westfall) allowed the tying run in the fourth inning.

Brett Hatcher (Jr., Bellefontaine, Ohio/Bellefontaine) picked up the first win of his career as the Buckeyes took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth after he came on to start in the top of the inning. He pitched two hitless innings and recorded a pair of strikeouts. Justin Myers (So., Scottown, Ohio/Symmes Valley) pitched an inning before Jesse Paciorek (Jr., Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood) finished the game to pick up the first save of his career.

Dayton (14-18) was led by Kris Kemmer, who had three of Dayton's seven hits. Adam Revelette got the loss to fall to 0-2 on the season. Ohio State (14-13 overall, 5-3 Big Ten), which is tied for second in the conference, plays at first-place Michigan State (17-12, 6-2) in a four-game series this weekend in East Lansing, Mich. The team will play a single game Friday at 3:05 p.m. before meeting in a doubleheader Saturday at 1:05 p.m. The series concludes Sunday with a single game at 1:05 p.m.
