You say the offense should be awesome, but losing Sanchez hurts. Losing Patrick Turner hurts, even if he was inconsistent. Someone unproven has to account for his production.
Their defense should be good but nearly as good as last year.
I think it will be a pick-em game, if not a 2 or 3 point adavantage either way. I think Vegas could make USC a slight favorite, which would mean the expect tOSU to win. If USC is a 2 point favorite, I think it means they believe tOSU will win, and are playing on the countries perception of tOSU.
Keep in mind, in the final pools, Vegas had tOSU 6th. Higher than the AP or Coaches.

OK, once again, Vegas sets the line based on getting an equal $ amount bet on each team.
It's what the bettors think will happen, not the bookies.
Vegas is uncannily good at setting an initial line that serves their purpose.
If the $ thinks tOSU will win, then they will be the favorite, not USC.
I agree, however, that there won't be a clear favorite. Very low point spread, probably influenced by each team's initial game.
If tOSU's offense shows a pulse the first game, or even looks somewhat dominant, they could very well be a slight favorite.
