Football: Jamie Wood: Local product stays close to home

His old junior high wanted a picture as soon as the announcement was made official. The local product, staying home.

For Pickerington native Jamie Wood, the announcement was a formality.

"I've always been a Buckeye fan, always loved the Buckeyes," Wood said. "Ohio State, it doesn't get any better than that."

Wood has been on an Ohio State football field numerous times before. The rumpled rug in the backseat of the family's van wears the tread marks. Running the car's width, the "Ohio State" lettering in the end-zones fits snugly against the doors.

A safety who runs the 40-yard-dash in 4.48 seconds, Wood should be running the field's width by sophomore year, if not sooner.
