Quote:
Smith's primary impact for Ravens will be at QB, not WR

Some eyebrows were raised when backup QB Troy Smith got some work at wide receiver during offseason workouts. And there is no doubt that the Ravens? WR depth is something of a concern. That said, we?re hearing the chances of Smith contributing much as a wideout this season are rather slim; Smith is adamant that he?s a quarterback, and a source close to the club says the Ravens still like his upside at the position. (Recall that he had the position all but sewn up before he came down with a tonsil infection last August.) Could Smith be split out wide a few times this season to give the opposition something to think about? Certainly, just as the occasional work he gets at quarterback is something defenses must note while game-planning. The way we hear it, though, it?s those handful of snaps he takes as a passer that will continue to comprise the bulk of his work for the Ravens.
