When Terrelle Pryor left Jeannette a year ago to play football at Ohio State, some people had doubts about the Jayhawks.

Jeannette was coming off WPIAL and PIAA Class AA football and basketball championships, and some fans and coaches believed it would be tough to repeat.

Jordan Hall and his teammates had other ideas.

Even though the Jayhawks came up short in both sports ? losing in the WPIAL football semifinals to Beaver Falls and the basketball finals to North Catholic ? they proved the previous seasons were far from flukes.

Led by Hall, the Jayhawks put together outstanding seasons, and for his effort and leadership on the football field and basketball court, Hall is the Tribune-Review's Male Athlete of the Year.

Hall was the Tribune-Review's Football Player of the Year, and he finished second to Greensburg Salem's Chris Klimchock for Basketball Player of the Year.

"I didn't think I had a great season," Hall said last month before joining Pryor at Ohio State. "It would have been a lot better if we would have won the titles. We don't like to lose in Jeannette."

Hall will join Pryor at Ohio State this fall. He's looking forward to contributing in a big way.

Pryor said the Ohio State coaches were impressed with Hall when he showed up in Columbus two weeks ago.

The versatile Hall led Jeannette with 111 carries for 946 yards ? an 8.5 yards-per-carry average ? and 18 rushing touchdowns this past season. In addition, he caught 10 passes for 266 yards and three scores.

"Jordan is just a great athlete," said former Jeannette football coach Ray Reitz, who now coaches at Latrobe. "He does everything well. He's a heck of a player.

"He was a great leader. I felt he did a great job for us. He has a winning attitude and is very versatile as a running back or wide receiver."
