Ohio State football Q&A: Sophomore offensive lineman Michael Brewster
by Doug Lesmerises/Plain Dealer Reporter
Sunday July 12, 2009

Marvin Fong/The Plain Dealer
As a sophomore certain to start somewhere along Ohio State's offensive line this fall, Michael Brewster is confident in his -- and his Buckeyes teammates' -- ability to surpass expectations.
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State's Mike Brewster took over as the starting center as a true freshman last season in the fourth game of the year, at the same time that true freshman Terrelle Pryor took over as the starting quarterback.
Pryor's progress is tracked with a magnifying class, but as Ohio State nears the start of preseason camp on Aug. 10, Brewster's isn't as easy to gauge. He admits to his rough spots a year ago, as the line as a group went through changes. Now the Buckeyes are still tinkering, working in the spring with Brewster at center, Bryant Browning at guard and Jim Cordle at tackle half the time, and then with Cordle at center, Brewster at guard and Browning at tackle.
Brewster prefers center, but he's pretty clear that no matter where he ends up when the season starts against Navy on Sept. 5, he'll be better.
Plain Dealer: What have summer workouts been like?
Mike Brewster: As a team, we look a lot leaner, a lot quicker. Just in general, but the line looks good. We should be a lot leaner.
PD: You worked at guard and center in the spring. Where are you more comfortable?
MB: Center. That's where I'll be.
PD: Are you 100 percent certain?
MB: That's where I'm comfortable, but you never know what can happen. I think in the long run, I'm better at center for my size and athleticism, if I keep improving. But we'll find the combination that works best. If it's not me at center, I'll play guard, I'll play tackle, I don't care. We're going to do whatever. We just want to win. Position doesn't really matter to me. I'm going to block regardless.
