Inkster QB Devin Gardner wants more games before U-M
BY MICK MCCABE
FREE PRESS SPORTS WRITER
This isn?t the way Devin Gardner?s high school career was supposed to end - on some remote football field in Ohio, five hours away and just a stone?s throw from West Virginia.
The Inkster senior, who knocked them dead at the Elite Eleven quarterback camp this summer, had visions of returning to Ford Field again next month to try to accomplish what he nearly did last year, win a state championship.
But unless Gardner leads Inkster to an upset of Steubenville tonight, odds are he won?t play another game of football until Rich Rodriguez is his coach in his freshman year at Michigan next fall.
?I feel like we can get it done, that?s how I feel,? Gardner said. ?I know they don?t lose at home. Coach (Greg) Carter showed me their Web site they?ve won 60 in a row at home. I thought they just didn?t lose at home, but they don?t lose in the regular season, either.?
