I'm all for Dennis which I have expressed to HH privately. I was just stating that almost every MAC school is at risk to fall below the attendance level that the NCAA set for D1A. Regardless UA has no chance of moving to the Big East any time soon if ever.

Thumbs up

the beauty of selecting Akron is three-fold.
1) he will be seen by every professional team in the country - since every team will be checking out first rounder Frye
2) Graduation hit the Akron skill positions pretty hard, DK could be a standout back and/or receiver.. so he's positioned very nicely
3) Akron does not have the same level of distractions as OSU.

In the grand scheme of things, I venture to guess this will be one of the best decisions Dennis has ever made.

I would consider this a lateral move at best. With UC and UoL headed to the Big East they have no competition. They're going to be the only football school in a basketball conference. I think Marshall realized they're not going to be pushing the other MAC schools (Miami, BG, Toledo) around much longer and decided to bolt.

The MAC is dangerous. It's filled with kids who were 3 inches too short, .2 seconds too slow or 25 lbs too light. Kids with chips on their shoulders because the titans don't have a metric to gauge heart... So when the opportunity arises, the heart takes over and sometimes super-human results occur - ala 2003 when no major wanted anything to do with any MAC school. Like the fight you got in against a smaller kid you thought you'd dominate and then realized this kid was never going to quit - lucky for the majors, there's a clock so they can escape.

Jack Lambert was a perfect example. He was far too light for a major to be interested. Heck, no professional team should have been interested either. He weighed 225 IN PADS !!

I agree. C-USA also may have offered Marshall more $ than the MAC was giving them. I think the MAC is the strongest mid major right now and if it keeps improving could even overtake the Big East.

Congrats, DK! I will be watching Akron games now and cheer for you. I am not sure if OSU is schedule to play the Zips anytime soon, and it will be great to see you in the Shoe...just don't have too many great runs on us okay. Best of luck and God bless.

I agree with that. I am an NIU alum, and they made a huge jump and lots of noise last year - got as high as 12 I think in the rankings.

If you match up the Mac and the Big East...well.... there isn't much difference now. In football anyway - they will be the best basketball conference probably. I am still shocked that the Big Least was able to keep their automatic bid.

While I am of course sad to see that my beloved Ohio U. did not make DK's list (who doesn't love the wishbone? ), and while it is also difficult for me to pull for the hated Zips, like everyone else, I wish nothing but the best for Dennis and will follow his career with interest. I catch a few MAC games every year on tv and occasionally in person, and definitely am looking forward to seeing him on the field. There have been many fantastic players come through that conference, and it makes those of us who have followed MAC football proud to see. It will be very exciting if DK becomes the next one. Play hard and make it happen, Dennis!

Quick question for HH, or anyone else who has insight...

How's Dennis doing at Akron? I see from their game participation reports that he hasn't appeared in a game yet, so I'm assuming that he's redshirting. Is he OK with that, happy with college, doing well academically, etc.?

If you speak to him, please let him know that there's some Buckeye fans who still very much hope he's doing well...

"the hated Zips"

Hey, wait a minute, How can you hate the Zips? They are sort of an enigma.
They will be a good team in a few years, but not right now.

Dennis is redshirting. I have seen him on the sidelines at games, but he is certainly a redshirt.

Dennis was in compition for the starting job when he hurt his hamstring. It was believed that it would be better to red shirt him as we didn't know how long it would take to heal.

He is doing great in school and watched as many Buckeye games as he can...
