Wink Dennis is looking good for the '07 season!
It's nice to know that Dennis is still being followed by the Buckeye nation. He is doing extremely well, and we are looking forward to this year's season. I'm praying he remains healthy. So looking forward to our contact with OSU on September 8th. It will be a bittersweet moment for our family, but we're excited about the trip. OSU will always have a place in our hearts.

It's great to hear from you. Dennis truly was one player that I was stoked about and sorry to see end up elsewhere. We all hope for big things for him, and send him some Buckeye love. (except for one day of course)

Akron's top tailback originally intended to be a Buckeye.
Dennis Kennedy of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., committed to OSU in 2004, but the scholarship offer was withdrawn by the school for reasons that were never made public. He signed with Akron and rushed for 914 yards in just 10 games last season.

AKRON -- There was a time when Dennis Kennedy saw himself running through the tunnel to the throaty roar of 100,000-plus fans in Ohio Stadium.

"I won't lie. Going to O-State would have been great," Kennedy said. "But it's something that's in my past. I had to go forward. I could be bitter, but I grew up in a faith-based home. God had a plan for me and that plan was to be at Akron."

So what will be going through Kennedy's mind at kickoff?

"There will be a lot of things," he said. "I'll leave it all on the field. I'll definitely be excited to play there. I signed there. I wanted to play there."

Kennedy, a redshirt junior, has been a hit with the Zips. Last year, he ran for 914 yards and nine touchdowns and caught 39 passes despite sitting out six quarters because of a banged-up shoulder. In a 22-14 win over Army last week, he ran for 72 yards on 13 attempts.

Akron coach J.D. Brookhart said Ohio State shouldn't wear the black hat in regard to what happened to Kennedy.

"We got to know the Ohio State coaches when we worked the senior camp and three-day camp," Brookhart said. "When things didn't work out with Dennis, I got a call from an Ohio State coach. They wanted to get him into another school. It has worked out extremely well for Akron and Dennis. He's a quality young man. He has done everything we've asked."

"It was my transcripts," he said. "Stranahan said I didn't have enough credits to graduate. The problem was corrected. I was told I did have enough credits. There was no issue with my grades. I was OK academically. But by that time Ohio State had released me."

Akron tailback Dennis Kennedy already has left an impression with Ohio State fans on the Internet. Today, he at last will have his chance to leave an impression at Ohio Stadium.

The native of Florida was a close friend of former Buckeyes Nate Salley and Chris Gamble. The Buckeyes coveted him for their 2004 class, but with less than 1,000-yard credentials, Kennedy was not a national recruit. He signed a letter of intent with the Buckeyes, but Ohio State later pulled his scholarship.

Some Buckeyes fans already know the story.

AKRON Akron running back Dennis Kennedy is the Mid-American Conference East Division Offensive Player of the Week.

Kennedy rushed for 277 yards and three touchdowns in Saturday's 42-35 win at Eastern Michigan. He scored the winning TD on a 4-yard run with 14 seconds left.

The 277 yards are the second highest total in Zips history and the most since Akron moved up to FBS (NCAA Division I-A) in 1987.
