The way HH posted makes it sound like the coaching staff made this decision. I wonder whether it was them, or a counsel of some sort, and the coaches got to pass along the news. I truly don't believe Jim Tressel would abandon a young man who has had to deal with his father's untimely death.

This is really a tough thing to do to the kid, but we will never know the whole story which makes it tough to comment on.
Good Luck Dennis. ![]() |

DaJuan Morgan.... check
Dennis Kennedy..... check Miles Willams...... check And also I remember hearing about the problem with Javier Estponia (sp) What the fuck is going on, this is ammo for all these other coaches.... don't ever think you have a binding agreement with OSU. |

i completely trust that Tressel & co. will do the right thing given a situation. Maybe his hands were tied in this situation. Geiger has become pretty hard nosed on this issue. I thought read somewhere where Tressel was permitted to take no more than 2 borderline academic recruits per year.
Maybe Curtis Terry, and Brandon Underwood make up those two? Just graping I guess, becasue i can't think of a good reason why Tressel would cut loose an upstanding buckeye like Dennis. |

Maybe when HH calms down, he can gives us more info.
I mean, if it's not regarding his grades than what could it be ? I don't care to speculate one way or another. I'm sure he'll get a great offer elsewhere without all the garbage he apparently is getting here. I'd be pissed too if I had his talent and they told me to 'walk-on' in the spring. Keep us updated as to where he goes. |

Maybe Rugby can help.
It has been a one hell of a long time since I signed my letter of intent and no I did not keep it. Maybe exhawg has his. It is a contract and I do remember all sorts of clauses and stipulations. We have had many posts on other schools that have lost athletes due to qualification requirements long after signing a LOI. I am sure OSU has high admission standards and some athletes and students who think they will get in don't in the end. Even the ones that get in do not always make it. I do agree it is a sad day for Dennis and his family and another black eye for the OSU football team recruiting wise. It should have been handled in a better way. |

The NLOI is binding on the school IF THE STUDENT ATHLETE MEETS ADMISSION STANDARDS OF THE SCHOOL. If OSU admitted Kennedy, the school is required to place him on schollie. This is a grades issue pure and simple.

Kennedy was taking community college classes because he was having difficulties with the clearing house. while he got through that obstacle, he obviously must not have gotten through osu admissions standards. I thought I read that osu asked for a 2nd consideration. if admissions didnt let him in, then there is nothing the staff can do about it.
I think HH is more upset about the fact that the staff wants him to walk-on in the spring versus holding his ship |

And remember just how much of an emphasis OSu's putting on academic standards these days. I'm not saying that it's not possible that something's fishy, but until someone gives me reason to believe otherwise, we have to assume that his grades just weren't good enough.
Anyone who wants to play DI college football knows that his grades have to be at a certain level. They have four years to make it happen. Need I say more? |

OhioBuck: With all due respect, if you truly did not care, I would have thought you'd then not reply. I don't really like the "Christian" reference in your first post, but I do respect the fact that you likely don't appreciate the way DK's situation has been handled.
Helpinghand: I am very saddened by this whole development. As several others have expressed, this doesn't sit well with my strong desire to see tOSU football program be a truly classy and admirable leader on the college football landscape. To sum up a few questions about your news, though: 1) Who is the "staff" to whom you refer? 2) Are the "classes" they are recommending to Dennis supposed to be further community college classes? 3) Was this decision made by the admission committee at OSU, and if so, was it appealed by the coaching staff (if you have any knowledge about it), or did the admission committee decision just automatically pass muster? 4) Have you ever compared notes with Gary Housteau (Miles Williams) and/or Bill Conley (DaJuan Morgan) to see if there are any similarities between the 3? That is, do these 3 situations all herald a whole new recruiting 'bottom line' at tOSU? Thanks for any information you might eventually feel comfortable passing along. |

I remember a "severe circumstances" allowance in admission evaluation...I would consider a father dying of cancer throughout his senior year a severe circumstance
