Whatever-if you consider IU and NU about the same then I fail to see how similar production equates to New but its really just semantics.

Our offense sucks and is going to be in for a long day vs a good PSU defense.

I see your point. I just don't see a significant differencce between Zwick and Smiths passing abilities so its all the same to me.

47% vs NU and 50% vs IU just doesn't jump out at me as a huge upgrade.

Yeah, right. Here's our offensive production against Northwestern and Indiana:

NU: 20 points, 308 yards (3.9 ypp), 97 yards rushing (2.8 ypc), 18-38-1 (47.4%) 211 yards passing (4.4 ypa) 97.4 passing rating
IU: 30 points, 443 yards (6.5 ypp), 282 yards rushing (6.6 ypc), 12-24-0 (50%) 161 yards passing (6.7 ypa) 133.8 passing rating

We got 2.6 yards more per play, 3.8 more yards per rush, and 2.3 more yards per pass attempt against Indiana. Not to mention 10 more offensive points.

Man, we just need to let this one die.

The passing numbers were very similar vs those two equally bad defenses, that was the my point to 27.

Obviously we had a better overall offensive effort vs IU primarily due to their inability to tackle our backs when they had them stuffed behind the line of scrimmage.

Hey, if this O puts up 21+ on PSU I'll happily bump this thread and admit I was wrong as wrong could be. Meanwhile, I remain skeptical.

A huge difference this past weekend with the "new" offense is that they had significant long, relatively mistake free, offensive drives. Troy and co. spread the wealth around. Now at times they didn't get in the end zone but it was not 3 and out all day long.
Have you seen PSU's offense?? Yes they can pass and yes they have racked up some good numbers at times but they have no run game so that inflated the passing #'s. Against Wisconsin- 106 rushing(ok) , Minn- 51 rushing, Purdue- 39 yrds rushing, and Iowa- 76 yards rushing for PSU. That makes PSU very one dimentional and easier to defense. Thats not a good offense at all. I don't think anybody is denying that OSU has had some challenges, and that we will have even more against PSU this Saturday. Its just OSU has alot more promise than PSU seems to have. If you have even seen one game that PSU has played you'd see how horrible they are on offense. They also have racked up 12 interceptions too. Nobody is saying PSU doesn't have a good defense but Akron passed for 223 yards on them. Both OSU's Offense and Defense has improved this past week and yes alot of us may be very optimistic but hey what did you expect? We don't give up and throw our Buckeyes in the crapper just because they are not undefeated. We'll defend them to the end. Have you forgotten that about Buckeye fans or are you having a bad dream and your stuck on a Miami forum ?? Thats gotta be it hehe ... j/k

You have some great stats but stats don't always tell the whole story. I Agree it will be a tough game and both Defenses will do well. We shall see if this "new" OSU offense is for real and they can set your worries aside fellow Buckeye Brotha !!!! GO BUCKEYES !!!

And don't forget that Smith missed a couple open guys for TDs, else the score would've been 38-7. Once Troy gets the touch passes down pat like he has the laser-beam passes, then look out. If we play as well against Penn State on both sides of the line as we did this past weekend, then I can all but guarantee you a win.

Also add in the many dropped passes that he had no control over and I think the score and his statistics display the domination better.

If you are going to count the woulda, coulda, shoulda stuff then don't forget the dropped passes to the IU defenders that could have just as easily been 6 the other way. A good D probably converts at least one of them.

50% is 50%. Maybe he will develop his deep passing ability, but I haven't seen an OSU QB be good at that in about 6 years

Sorry if I am being too negative but my faith is completely shaken in this offensive system and I have seen crappy OSU offenses look good vs IU before. They made Lydell Ross look like the second coming of Eddie but we all know what the reality of that situation turned out to be.

I keep hearing that but after watching the collision between Ginn and the CB I'm amazed both of them were standing--I don't think it could have easily been 6 the other way and we're extremely lucky Ginn was still on his feet. There is a reason he is a CB. Look at Louisville, they hold onto a ball thrown straight into the DB's chest and they've got a huge win at Miami. From the Oklahomas to the Northwesterns, DBs drop those passes.

The first thing that ball hit were the hands of the IU DB. Smith also threw one out into the right flat in the 2nd quarter that I was almost sure was going the other way, thankfully like half of his passes do, it dropped incomplete.

The #110 defense in the country drops those kind of opportunities. Teams with top 25 caliber defenses/talent will accept if you keep offering gifts.

Wrong. Watch the play again. Both the defender and Ginn had their hands on the ball.
