Although this three-star 2005 prospect academic future is uncertain, a number of schools are pursuing him to fill out their 2005 class. The 6-foot-1, 170-pound point guard has been scoring close to 30 points a game for Terre Haute South (Ind.) High School. With four offers on the table, Bassett will more than likely have more options if he can get the ACT score he needs. He is a big, Physical point guard who can score.

Arkansas, Xavier, Nebraska and Southern Illinois have offers on the table if he can qualify. He is interested in Arkansas, Xavier, Nebraska, Southern Illinois, Ohio State, Purdue and Auburn.

The defending state champions were just too tough as Lawrence North defeated 6-foot-1 point guard Armon Bassett and Terre Haute South 72-51 Saturday evening, They finished the season 22-6.

Armon is listing Arkansas, Ohio State, Xavier, Nebraska and Southern Illinois, but the following schools are showing more interest, Purdue, Texas Tech and Auburn.

It is likely he will go to prep school, he is not qualified yet.

Looking at Rivals and Scout.com there are a lot of guards going to the places he is interested in so i think that TOSU has a good chance to land him. Foster is gone after next season and the only true PG that we have is Butler so i think the competition is going to be limited!!!!!

From Bucknuts...OSU supposedly offered back during the summer, although it is a bit unclear whether he has an official offer or not. But Matta is definitely recruiting him right now. He plans to decide within the next week. He is planning on going to prep school and then he is looking at Arkansas, Ohio State, Xavier, Purdue, New Mexico, Texas Tech, Auburn, and Southern Illinois.

Well, until it is cleared up, I will leave him as not having an offer at this point.

to be totally honest, I don't see why we would want to offer him at this point, especially if he is going the prep route. I think we should wait and see how things play out with Conley and keep Bassett on the backburner. If he decides not to wait and commits before the fall or while at prep school to someone like Xavier, Purdue, or Arkansas, then that is his decision. In the meantime, I would like to keep a seat warm for Conley if possible. If he decides to go to Wake, then Matta can go after guys like Bassett, Will Walker, or Devan Bawinkel.

If Conley doesnt decide until the fall then a lot of good PG's will sign elsewhere. We should try to land as many as possible. You can never have enough depth on your roster if you look at Duke,NC and other big time programs they have guys who come in and pine the bench for playing time!!!

According to Scout Hoops editor Dave Telep, he says OSU is very interested in Armon but that grades are an issue and their is a chance he will qualify but that Armon wants to go to prep school for both academically and basketball wise.

Bassett is being recruited as a high major player.

Armon scored 29 points on 10-15 shooting from the field, he is his teams main scorer and still trys to get the rest of the team involved.

Bassett announced he is going to Hargrave Military Academy next year, supposedly at the suggestion of Ohio St. coaches.

South's Armon Bassett unanimous choice for Valley Player of the Year

The boys high school basketball Player of the Year on the all-Wabash Valley team still has some unfinished business before he plays college basketball, he said last week.

Armon Bassett of Terre Haute South, a unanimous choice by Tribune-Star sportswriters for the Player of the Year honor, will spend next winter in the mountains of Virginia at Hargrave Military Academy.

"I'm going to work on basketball, the weights and prepare for the [Scholastic Aptitude Test]," said Bassett, who should qualify for a college scholarship as soon as his final grades from South are issued later this spring. "I'm just going to get a higher test score and polish my game up a little bit more."

Ironically, prep school was first recommended to Bassett by Ohio State, one of his recruiting suitors, when it wasn't certain the South senior would be an academic qualifier.

Whether that suggestion will now help the Buckeyes is questionable. Bassett, who felt somewhat left out of the recruiting process because of those grade questions, would like another year to see just how much interest he can draw.

"

Bassett explained. "They've been a powerhouse the last two years - 60-2, with all their players getting Division I scholarships.

"I felt I couldn't get recruited fairly because of my grades, and I just want to see what's out there," he concluded.

Bassett's senior season with the Braves, who finished 22-6 and reached the Class 4A Final Four, was certainly worthy of interest.

"As far as scoring and making other players better, he's as good as anybody who has played in Terre Haute in the past 30 years or so," said Coach Mike Saylor, who has watched the city's basketball since the early 1970s. "He has the ability to manufacture his own shot, and he could lead any team in assists."

Saylor knew the success of his first year as a head coach might depend on how well Bassett could lead his team, and said last week, "As far as meeting my expectations, everything was super.

"[Bassett] needs to get better off the ball, offensively and defensively, but that's something he realizes," Saylor added. "He's really a great kid, and prep school is a real blessing for him; it gives him an extra year of maturity [before playing college basketball]."

Speaking of his Player of the Year Award, Bassett said, "It's a great honor. I worked hard to get where I am right now, and this is a stepping stone to where I want to be."

Bassett too entered his senior year with high goals, and is still in line to become an Indiana All-Star when that team is announced soon. The year has come close to meeting his expectations, he said.

"I'm right on track for everything," he said, "except winning the semistate and the state [tournament]."

This might mean that he will come to OSU next year after a year of Hargrave.
