'05 CA RB Cortes Rice (Illinois State signee)
JR Stats: 80 carries/550 yds/6 TDs--missed five games due to a strained rotator cup and a broken finger.
"I have great vision and I'm big with good speed. I just have determination and work hard to get to the end zone. I'm going to be playing defense as a SR too, so I want to improve my conditioning. I also want to work on my pass blocking."
Lists UCLA as his favorite but also has interest in Ohio State among others as he used to live in the Columbus area. Could this be the "big" back we're looking for?

From a recruiting standpoint it would be really nice to land a kid from California and have it work out. Rambo wasn't a bust by any means but his stay in Columbus was less stellar and the Ja Ja Riley situation was unfortunate. It would have been nice to have him last year. Cortes is a little bigger than the other backs we're in on at this point and I personally like a back with size. Hopefully Rivals or the Insiders gets some video.

I don't know, if the word about Ringer is true, then he's over 200lbs and he's 2 inches shorter. I think Ringer could be a goo done.

I agree with HUB in that if Ringer is indeed bigger, he will be a great catch (not that he isn't even if he is only 185-190 pounds). I saw a few video clips of him, courtesy of VG, and I like the way he runs. In addition, we seem to have had back luck with California recruits the past several years. The last one I can remember was Kenyon Rambo, and he was not that good.

If you want a big, fast back, keep in mind Matt Clapp out of Phoeniz, AZ (6'3", 235, 4.60), who is two inches taller, 30 pounds heavier, and only .05 seconds slower. Oh yeah, Clapp has high interest in Ohio State.
