Insiders Premium
Coaches from West Virgina are going to see Hight play this weekend. He will make a visit to West Virginia at some point and if all goes well he says he will verbal to the Mountaineers. |

Hight says there's a 75% chance he'll go to West Virginia. He says that tOSU still wants him but he is not interested. He did say that he thinks tOSU has a great program. |

Per yesterday's Akron Beacon Journal, Hight committed to the University of Akron. A huge slide for a guy Duane Long described as have the talent to play on Sundays. Having watched him play twice I think he ended up in about the right place.

As for the facilities, that will not even be a contest or debate in about three years ![]() |

OSUGrad21,
Can you elaborate on that comment? I still think, even if OSU upgrades, it will be hard to top what Akron has done. They have both indoor and outdoor practice facilities on campus now. The fieldhouse, the indoor facility, is second to none. There is also a rumor that they have are almost finished buying the entire south side of off-campus housing in order to build a stadium. The campus is unreal now with all the new buildings, student center, student fitness center, etc!! |

Akron has some excellent facilities for sure, but when a University the size of tOSU, with the bankroll that includes, decides to upgrade, it looks to set the bar a little higher than any current facility structure. Really more of a judgment/opinion than anything else...nothing I can back up...yet. I do agree with you about Akron...they are doing great things there. One of my good friends has been a trainer for the athletic programs for 4 or 5 years and is now in the graduate program there. |

Totally agree
No doubt OSU's will be better!!! It is just frustrating to hear people knock Akron when they don't know anything about the school and the strides they have taken under Proenza(the university prez), both academically and athletically!!
Now, back to Hight, definitely think Akron got a geat player. Lets hope he can keep his nose clean and his grades up!! Could be looking at another Jason Taylor type to come out of Akron. Go Bucks and Go Zips!! |

I would say that while it may not have been a "huge" slide from WVU to Akron football-wise, it was indeed a downgrade. WVU has had some very good nationally ranked teams in the fairly recent past, while Akron has never even finished ranked since moving up to I-A in 1987. Whether it's right or wrong, the MAC is still looked down as a mid- to lower-tier conference by many. Hight's chances of going pro would be significantly better if he were to excel at WVU than if he excels at Akron. The Zips just aren't a widely-recognized program.

Right now as I sit 2 blocks away from the University of Akron, I would still have to have someone buy me a ticket to go watch a game (unless it was against a tough opponent). I mean hell, the only team that will be playing them out of conference the next 4 years at home is Army(as of yet).

Did they build a new stadium since my college days? The RB does indeed suck.

It doesnt really matter where he signed, a good offensive lineman will eat him alive. Just watch the championship game from last year and see Conner Smith push him all over the field. He's better off at Akron than TOSU!!!!

read my post again...never did i say that OSU will NEVER match Akron's facilities!! I actually said to the contrary in a proceeding post. I know OSU will probably have better facilities, but the will have to put some serious cash into it.
I know how much they spent to build brand new stuff up there and I know how old Woody Hayes Center is. All I said was.... -------------------------------------------------------------------------- I still think, even if OSU upgrades, it will be hard to top what Akron has done.
