CJ and Taz will be visiting the Shoe again, this time for the Indiana game. Ohio State is CJ's favorite but are recruiting him as an athlete and he mentions he wants to play quarterback. Some other schools on his list are scUM St., NC State, Florida and Pitt.

Seems like CJ has been a beneficiary of new Head Coach Willie Snead

Jackson, a senior who plans to graduate in December, is the biggest beneficiary of Snead's arrival at Ely.

Snead scrapped former coach Steve Davis' Wing-T approach and opened up the passing game.

''Coach Davis ran a great offense with the Wing-T,'' Jackson said. ``But with new coaches come new schemes. I didn't have a problem with the Wing-T, but now that Coach Snead has come with the new spread offense, the pressure is now more on the quarterback than the running game.''

Jackson, who averaged eight passing attempts a game when he first started as a sophomore, said the team took time to acclimate itself to the new offense.

''When he first came, it was kind of new to us because we weren't used to an offense like that,'' said Jackson, who is 36 of 68 for 636 yards and four touchdowns this season.

``But once he came and went through the camps and got us comfortable with it, it was like we've been doing it for a while.''

Ely averaged 26.7 points through three games this season, including contests against highly touted Deerfield Beach and St. Thomas Aquinas.

CJ will be visiting tOSU on Dec. 3rd. tOSU is his favorite over MSU, NCST (who are both second on his list). He says he will root for tOSU over MSU this weekend.

He says that tOSU is recruiting him as an athlete (potentially wide receiver) and claims it doesn't bother him.

I was thinking the same thing. I hope we aren't cooling on CJ. I've read a lot about him and look forward to seeing him in action.

Carlton Jackson:
Even though Jackson's numbers were not great -- 5 of 14 passing -- he got the job done. Jackson was featured in a variety of ways to display his athleticism. He ran draws and options several times but was never able to bust a long play, either through the air or on the ground. On a fake handoff, Jackson bounced outside for an 11-yard touchdown run that was called back because of holding.

Jackson is being recruited as an "athlete" prospect and I agree with that label. In warm-ups he threw a pretty ball, while in the game he missed a couple slants that could have been big gains, even touchdowns. His legs are lively, though, and he seems to have an athletic mind to go with his athletic body.

I spoke to Jackson about how the recruiting process is going.

"I'm going up to Michigan State for the Wisconsin game," Jackson said. "It's not quite official for the Ohio State-Michigan game but I'm pretty sure I'll be there."

"Right now, I've been keeping in contact with North Carolina State, Michigan State, Ohio State, UCF, Clemson, Syracuse, and Akron," said Jackson. "Ohio State and Michigan State lead."

"I've got a 3.0 GPA and scored a 16 on my ACT," Jackson added. "I took the SAT's today."
