Audibles: "O.J. brings so much speed and that's probably the biggest thing about his game. But he's also a great athlete and he's only getting better and better as a receiver." -Middleton coach Harry Hubbard

Biography:
Murdock is one of the fastest prospects in the state. Murdock finished third this past track season in both the 100 and 200 meters. In both races he lost to Xavier Carter (LSU) from Melbourne (Fla.) Palm Bay High School. According to Murdock his fastest 100 meter time is 10.3 (electronic). Last season as a junior, he caught 33 passes for over 800 yards and scored seven touchdowns. He carries a 2.3 GPA and has already scored a 960 SAT. Murdock bench presses 240 and squats 350. His father, Calvin Murdock, played wide receiver for Troy State and the New England Patriots.
Murdock:"Every time I step on the field I have the mind set that I am scoring," said Murdock. "I might not be the biggest, the tallest or the fastest but I have heart, good hands and speed and no one is going to stop me. I am not cocky, just confident."
Coach's Comments:"O.J. brings so much speed and that's his No. 1 thing," said Middleton Head Coach Harry Hubbard. "But he's also a good athlete that can play wide receiver. He runs good routes and gets great separation from defensive backs. "O.J. is not a good wide receiver. He is a great wide receiver."

RISING STAR: Middleton senior wide receiver O.J. Murdock got a nice dose of national pub this week when TheInsiders.com released its list of the country's top 100 prospects. Murdock ranked 66th, 12th-best among Floridians. Tigers coach Harry Hubbard said his standout deserves the mention.
"He's blessed with something the supreme being has given him," Hubbard said. "It's his speed more than anything else. It allows him to separate from people a lot easier."
Murdock (6-0, 185) has finished in the top four at the state track meet in the 100 and 200 meters the past two years. He's easily one of the state's fastest prep players and has received scholarship offers from most of the South's major programs. This season, Murdock has four catches for 180 yards and two touchdowns. Middleton is 1-1.
"Teams focus on him, but we have some other top receivers so we can spread the ball around," Hubbard said.

YTD '04 Stats: (5 games) 23 receptions for 300+ yards and four TD's
His favorites are the Big Florida 3 and tOSU. He got interested in tOSU after reading about Mike Jenkins (another Tampa native). Coach Daniels is recruiting him.
tOSU has offered and he will be visiting

In the latest Insiders premium update, he says Miami is a slight leader over Florida State; then he likes LSU and Alabama. Florida is out now that Zook is gone.

O.J. is off the team...Steve Spurrier announces it as only SS can:
"He's an excellent track guy. That's probably his best sport," Spurrier said. "We're going to send him over to Coach (Curtis) Frye. Hopefully, Coach Frye can make him an excellent track performer."

Murdock Finds New Home
By Phil Kornblut
From: The St. Petersburg Times
Former Tampa Middleton receiver O.J. Murdock, a nationally coveted recruit who spent two seasons at South Carolina, plans to transfer to USF this summer.
"I want to be closer to home. My family needs me, and this is a better fit for me," said Murdock, a first-team all-state selection ranked as the nation's No. 10 prep receiver by Rivals.com two years ago.
Murdock, 5 foot 11 and 187 pounds, redshirted his first year with the Gamecocks, then played sparingly last season, catching one pass for 8 yards before he left the team in December. He will have to sit out the 2007 season and will have two years of eligibility with the Bulls.
Murdock was arrested in October in Tampa on a felony charge of grand theft, accused by police of shoplifting about $420 in clothes from a store at University Square Mall. Murdock said he expects his legal problems to be resolved by the end of this summer.
USF has not received a release from South Carolina, so coaches cannot yet speak with Murdock.
