When will we know if we got Jason Gwaltney? When is the commitment deadline?

He's announcing February 1.

He said that he is going to inform the coaches and make his announcement.

gobucks19 - You don't have the rules limiting a HC's in-home visits quite right. The HC is limited to ONE "off-campus" (off the university's campus) visit to a recruit. The NCAA bylaws don't mention "in-home" because that is just another variation of an off-campus visit. The HC can meet the recruit at the recruit's school, at the recruit's home, someplace else or all three. But regardless of the number of locations, they must occur on the same day. If you meet the recruit at a restaurant on one day and at his home on another day, that counts as two visits and is a violation. There are provisions for "incidental" or "accidental" contact, but that is not supposed to be intentional and certainly does not rise to the level of a visit. As an example, if JT is at the mall and happens to see a recruit, he can say hello; but he shouldn't turn that contact into a pitch. BTW assistant coaches can visit a recruit up to six times. And no matter how many assistants visit the recruit on a particular day, that counts as only one visit. Hope this helps clarify a confusing area or recruiting.

We need this kid bad! Yeah Pittman might be a good runner but I don't think that he is a gamebreaking RB. We need a big powerful back to run our offense the way JT likes! I just hope we get him!

As the O line goes, so goes the running back.

Antonio Pittman, Eric Haw, and Maurice Wells will be great as long as the O line blocks for them. All three have great burst, great vision, and once in the open field can run away from tacklers. I was very impressed with Tony Pittman when he was on the field this past season.

Gwaltney would be great, and it would be in his best interests to go to Ohio State, but it's hard to argue against USC. He can go there and sit for a few years (no way that White AND Bush are coming out early) and be on a winner or he can come to Ohio State, play VERY early and be on a winner.

Either way we'll know in a week.

Superb post, Hiny. It's impossible to put into words exactly how rich tOSU football tradition is. But a picture's worth a thousand words, as they say, and you've done a great job of capturing the electricity of the program.

If Jason sees your post, he should know that those pictures capture only the tiniest tip of the iceberg. We could include a thousand pages of pictures and not tell the whole story. Jason's life would be on cruise control to greatness if he made the smart choice and picked tOSU.

And Navy, thanks for clarifying the recruiting visits stuff. Makes sense and is good to know.

Williams' attitude paying dividends (Jason Gwaltney at bottom) - Charleston Daily Mail

... LAST WEEKEND, I attended the U. S. Army All-American Bowl, featuring 80 of the top high school football players in the nation. Among those playing in the game for the East squad was coveted running back Jason Gwaltney from North Babylon, N.Y.

Gwaltney, who is considering West Virginia, Ohio State and Southern California after earlier committing to the Mountaineers, earned high praise during practice from East assistant coach Terry Smith.

Smith, a former Penn State wide receiver who is also the head coach at Gateway High School near Pittsburgh, said, "Jason is a great north-and-south runner. He has deceptive speed to run outside. He has the desire and toughness to run inside. He would rather run through you than be shifty and go around you."

After watching Gwaltney in practice, it is easy to see why he is a top priority for the Mountaineer coaching staff. He has a chance to be a dominant back in the Big East Conference.

He only stands about 5-foot-10, but he keeps a low center of gravity and leverage to his advantage. For a strong, thick back, he also displayed great vision and cutback ability...
