That's a really encouraging article. If there's a "46% chance" he's headed to USCum, and by other accounts WVU is out of it, a slight OSU lead with a visit still to come is a really fantastic sign for the good guys.


I eagerly anticipate his announcement, and wish this fine young man the best of luck whatever his choice may be.

This was not a negative article at all for tOSU. Yeah, he says a 46% chance, but like Mike just said, WVa is basically out of it (Jason said so himself in the article) so it means that tOSU probably has a slight lead right now (he also said in a BSB article that the Petey visit didn't put them out front either).

I actually think that this is a positive article for us.

osugrad21 has busted his arse in spliting posts off that have nothing to do with Gwaltnet's actual status other than speculation, yet many of you keyboard monkeys keep asking the same crap: "Any news yet?"; "What do you think wstripes?"; "If WVU is out, what percent are we?", etc.

I'm nuking every post in this thread from now on that doesn't provide any definitive info on Gwaltney and his status. If you want to specualte or ask opinions about where he'll go, then do so on the WStripes and Mass JG Specualtion (Split) thread in the Open Discussion forum.

However, the situation at USC is better than OSU long-term in terms of playing/starting. There is nobody coming in with him at USC. Nobody came in last year. That means things really open up for him to potentially get more carries over his entire career than he would anywhere else.

At OSU, 3 RBs came in last year. Wells comes in this year. Those guys will be with him for most or all of his career. Wells doesn't pose the threat to JG's PT like Bush and White do in years 1 and (maybe) 2, but he poses a bigger threat than anybody in years 3 and 4.

The ceiling is much higher at USC.

False. 2 RBs and 1 FB. Also its pretty premature to talk about long-term starts. Who knows who USC or tOSU will bring in next year or the year after that. Could quite possibly bring in the greatest RB of all time. Who knows?

Things heating up for Gwaltney

Coaches from USC, Ohio State and West Virginia visit star halfback to make final pitches before signing day on Feb. 2

They put serious pressure on Jason Gwaltney this week. With the official national signing day, Feb. 2, almost here, the hottest Long Island football prospect in decades was being wooed one final time by the last three schools in the hunt for his services.

The record-breaking halfback from North Babylon spent most of his time listening to pitches by the head coaches from USC, Ohio State and West Virginia.

The final recruiting stage for the running back got underway Tuesday afternoon when USC coach Pete Carroll arrived on a private jet with a large coaching staff in tow.

Carroll and his entourage drove to North Babylon and made their final attempt at luring Gwaltney westward to play for the Trojans, the defending national champions. The show of support wowed Gwaltney and had him leaning toward USC.

Then it was Jim Tressel's turn to make a late run at Gwaltney for Ohio State. The head coach arrived late Wednesday with three assistants by his side to convince Gwaltney that the Buckeyes were the right fit.

Three hours later, Tressel was headed back to Ohio.

"We set up a final schedule for everyone to get the opportunity to talk to him one more time," North Babylon coach Terry Manning said. "And then we're shutting it down to make a decision over the weekend.

"His head is just spinning."

Herb Hand, the recruiting coordinator at West .Virginia, was the first .serious suitor for Gwaltney, and Hand spent most of yesterday afternoon at Gwaltney's home.

After Hand's departure, Gwaltney went on a date to see "Assault on Precinct 13."

"I'm going back and forth on a few things," he said. "I'm still not sure. But maybe I am."
