Orton has 16 offers but says he is wide open. He says tOSU has not shown much interest and scUM has shown interest but have yet to offer. |

Just ran across this as I was looking for news links. I didn't see any other mention of it. Sounds like Orton is NOT a prospect for Ohio State.
http://story.theinsiders.com/a.z?s=68&p=2&c=275970 Ohio Wide Recevier - Greg Orton By Chris Pool**Midwest Recruiting Analyst Date: Jul 20, 2004 Huber Heights (Wayne) receiver Greg Orton is the #48 prospect in the Midwest. Orton has several scholarship offers and seven schools are at the top of his wish list. Greg Orton, a 6-foot-4, 190-pound wide receiver from Huber Heights (Ohio) Wayne has been offered several scholarships. Orton caught 59 balls for 782 yards and 11 touchdowns as a junior. Does Orton have a leader for his services? “I’m completely wide open right now,” Orton said. “My favorites are Purdue, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Iowa and Virginia. “Notre Dame and Tennessee haven’t offered me a scholarship yet but they write hand-written letters all the time.” Orton is a solid football player but don’t look for him to stay in the Buckeye State to play his college football. “I’m definitely leaving the state,” said Orton. “I never grew up a big Ohio State fan like most of the guys in Ohio. I want to get away from home and experience something different.” Greg Orton will be a four-year varsity member and three-year starter in 2004. He was named all-area as a junior and was named to the Ohio pre-season Tremendous 26 team. Orton camped at Pitt this summer. He carries a 3.1 GPA in the classroom and scored a 21 on his ACT. |

Thanks, 3yards. Sounds a little like sour grapes to me but what do I know. I suspect if our interest in Orton picked up his interest in Ohio State would pick up as well.

Isn't it funny how that works?

Its funny how time changes peoples opinions on schools, he is probably a little mad they havent offered, but I bet if he is patient he will get one.

I saw Orton play last year in a locally televised game against Centerville. He was, in a word, AWESOME! He had had a pretty good game through 3+ quarters. When C'ville scored with less than 2 minutes remaining, it looked like Wayne might be done. Especially since their starting QB was out and they had turned to a soph. Wayne got the ball around their 15 yard line and went to work. IIRC Orton had 4 or 5 catches on that drive (Marcus Freeman also had one out of the backfield) including a game winning TD with about 15 seconds to go. He appeared fearless over the middle, showed great hands and used his body well to shield the ball from the defender. IMO, if we are not looking at him, we might be missing one. Besides, Wayne has been pretty good to us so far (Will Allen, John Hollins, Freeman). Let's keep the pipeline going.
Another player in that game that was impressive was FB Tommy Tamaska from C'ville. He is smallish (5'11"), but strong and has good hands (remind anyone of Matt Keller?). I have seen C'ville play at least once every year for as long as I can remember. I am a Kettering Fairmont grad and always go to this version of a rivalry game. Over the years it has seemed like the OSU\scUM rivalry when we had Cooper. Obviously, the best player in recent years in the game has been AJ Hawk. Well, Tamaska reminds me of a smaller version of Hawk. He brings it. In the Fairmont game last year, he broke the Firebirds' backs with about a 90 yard run with a botched punt. The Elks were up 14-0 in the first after forcing 2 turnovers and a punt. Fairmont's D finally stopped them on the third possession and forced a punt. Like AJ, Tamaska is Centerville's punter. The snap went over his head and it looked like Faimont would get the ball in great shape to make a game of it. Tamaska picked it up, reversed field and was gone (albeit with help from a missed holding call, but I don't want to sound like sour grapes). The defense came off the field and you could tell it was "Game Over". Unfortunately, I cannot find any recruiting info about him anywhere. He is a senior this year. |

Hell, the kid is tall (6'4"), blazingly fast (4.4 speed), is from Ohio, and is considered one of the very best in the state...what is the staff waiting for?

I know most people think Lemming is a dope, but he ranks Orton as the 10th best WR - IN THE NATION!

Besides, if we can forgive Schoenhoft for growing up a scUM fan (Thank God he's seen the error of his ways), I think we can offer this guy.

My son in law was invited to the Michigan camp out of HS but couldn't go becuase his Mom made him go on a family vacation. That turned out to be his best shot to get noticed and he ended up at a small Georgia school where chronic injuries finally caught up with him.
Sometimes it is the little things. |
