I would not say Orton is blazingly fast. Rivals lists him at 4.49. If you watch his video he doesn't have that burst where he can just blow by people after he makes the catch. He's a nice looking athlete though and you have to like his size. He didn't help himself by not camping here this summer so he's just going to have to wait for a while. Maybe as time wears on he's losing patience. I suspect if Amos goes elsewhere and we don't get Lymon, which could very well happen, the staff will go back to Orton.

And you very well may have, I'm not doubting you for a minute. You know the discepancies these recruiting services have. Rivals lists him at 4.49. If you could see his video you'd see he doesn't run a 4.4 flat. Don't get me wrong, I like Orton. I don't usually get caught up in 40 times either. The only thing I saw on film that could possibly be held against him is his speed. There has to be some reason the staff offered Manningham, Hartline, Amos, and Lymon but not Orton to this point, right? Orton has plenty of size and good hands. He just didn't have that extra gear, and I'm not saying he needs one. I'm not sure what kind of blocker he is and I'm not sure if he runs good routes since I haven't seen him in person. There is something the coaches still have questions about. Hopefully Orton can answers those questions this fall.

I agree Nutty. The staff is loading up on speed and IMO if you don't have it your not getting an offer. IMO Lymon and Amos are our prime targets and until they commit I don't see Orton getting an offer. IMO Robiskie is higher on the pecking order than Orton is as well.

I just saw where he's listed at 4.4, it's Buckskin86's initial post in the thread (so it's his fault! ).
It's just a shame that he doesn't rate an offer in the staff's eyes yet. Hopefully he can get his speed down somewhat to go along with his other talents.

Sometimes it's about more than who is the fastest. I think it can be just as hard to find 6'4" receivers who don't mind going over the middle. Add 4.4 or 4.49 speed to that and IMO you have a potential winner here.

Excellent analysis, Nutty (as usual). I might add that Orton's 40 time, as listed by Rivals, was not a Nike time; Nike times are usual more accurate (and almost always slower) than other reported times.
Even if Orton does have sub 4.5 speed, I agree with Nutty that he doesn't play that fast. That being said, he does have an outstanding ability to position his body to ward off defenders, to fight for the ball in traffic, and make the tough catches. He'll be a good player in college, IMO.
