just one pic from his soph. year to add.
no film or write up on him though as he didn't catch a ball that game. oh well. here is the pic. |

I just watched his film, and have the following comments: Greg has great hands and uses his size (6'4") well; uses his body to cut off the defender from the ball. Claims a 4.49 forty, but doesn't seem that fast (it wasn't a Nike time). He goes after the ball well, and gets it, but doesn't do much with it after the catch (i.e., speed, power, and elusivity are not special). A classic possession receiver (not necessarily a bad thing). Could be worthy of an offer.
He has offers from Michigan State, Iowa, Purdue, and Cincinnati. |

He is up to 15 schollie offers and the article says he is favoring Pitt- no mention of tOSU as a favorite- but he will be at tOSU camp |

In a new article from Pantherlair.com, Orton expresses interest in Pitt and a number of other schools; OSU isn't actively recruiting him at the present time.

Orton mentioned the coaches have been in touch and wanted him to camp last weekend but he had to attend his grandmother's birthday party. He wants an OSU offer but he's being patient. He's also been talking with Marcus Freeman about the recruiting process. I like Orton. I've seen a little of him on film and he has nice size, decent speed but he's no burner, and good hands. Obviously the staff has a few guys rated higher(Lymon, Amos, Sledge, to name a few) but there is interest, according to the latest update. They want to see how Orton does this fall. If things fall through with some of these other kids Orton may be a candidate for a late offer. He seems to be willing to wait, at this point. Last edited by BuckNutty; 06-30-2004 at 02:52 PM. |

Thanks for the update, Nutty. I like Orton as well, and hope that he gets an offer (although he is in a log jam, and there are a few guys ahead of him). Although he apparently has good speed, he plays more like a possession receiver, which isn't all bad (plenty of WR's have made a career out of catching 7-yard outs on third down).
I'm glad that Orton is letting the recruiting process play itself out. Some guys panic or get ticked when they don't have an OSU offer in June, and commit to the first team that calls them up. Let's hope that he plays his way into scarlet and gray. |
