Ahhhh, Jonny B Good... classic movie. Reminds me that I need to rent it, I have not seen it in a few years.
Not near the ledge and not pestimistic. Just asking a legitimate question. Like AKAK just mentioned the staff may be looking at next years talent and drooling and comparing it to what they can grab at this year and say... "Ummm, we can wait" I have no problem with that.
I just loved Sledge's talent and to see that he has switched his commit to Florida and then finding out that we cancelled his trip. I just had to vent for a second

Fear not said he for mighty dread had seized poor Shaker's mind ...
If the staff really felt that type of harsh future awaited the team their actions would have been quite contrary to their present approach.
Scenario fitting your fear -- tOSU Maxes the number of new players now, for we cannot be assured of those schollies being available in '06, 7, 8 or whatever.
They haven't done that though, which should tell you loud and clear that other factors are at play here.
Quality not quantity. Looking to '06 and beyond for a larger crop of Freshmen. Looking to fill some spots on roster this year in other ways should incoming scholarship class size be in the 15-18 range.

I wouldn't be shocked by a Rico McCoy signing day suprise. By that I mean he doesn't sign the letter of intent with UT. I hope the NCAA finishes up by that time.

that would shock me...
Really, the only guys we are still in on are Wilson, Tucker, Gwaltney, and Ashley. I think the most plausible scenario is that we get Wilson on Signing Day. I am not including Worthington in this discussion because I believe from reading his own words that he is 100% Buckeye. Anything beyond Wilson though would be surprising to me. I would love to believe that we are the favorites for Jason Gwaltney, but there are just too many signs pointing West to be ignored. I am not conceding that he is a Trojan but I would be pleasantly surprised if he signs with OSU. Ashely would be shocking to me...I think he is headed West for sure. USC has spent more time as his favorite than any other and I don't think any late visits from assistant coaches can overturn that. Tucker has stated recently that he is 95% sure he is signing with Georgia Tech...so I don't hold much hope there. I would be plenty happy getting LOIs from the 15 verbal commits we currently have and adding Lawrence Wilson. Gwaltney would be a major bonus...anything outside of that would be surprising in my opinion...

Someone was asking about Signing Day Surprises...
Are the surprises going to be Robiskie and Washington III??? I wonder if there are more that we don't even know about yet - Tressel's recruiting is fun to follow. Makes you wonder how much of the recruiting stuff he keeps hidden and then gets these visits late. Some might review this and say that the Bucks are scrambling to fill the class - my guess is that it is WAY more calculated than that - we are not exactly landing bad recruits and these guys are no slouches either. Go Bucks!!

Doc - I don't know if Robiskie and Washington constitute "surprises" exactly, as both are uncommitted players who have long had interest in Ohio State, and who have been on the Buckeyes' radar for months. On the other hand, it seemed that neither was destined to receive an Ohio State offer (and Washington still doesn't have one), especially at this late stage. Both would be nice "athlete" additions.
A true surprise, IMO, would be to sign a last-minute de-commit from another school, like a McCoy or Daniels, for example. A huge surprise would be Jason Gwaltney convincing Brian Cushing to come to Ohio State....

I agree about Washington and Robiskie...proof that good things come to those who wait (Ringer, Harrison, etc.). I didn't want to already start the idea of Daniels de-commiting but I would agree that would be an awesome surprise. McCoy seems further remote, but that would also be a great surprise.
I love Gwaltney and would love to have Cushing, but I think there is about as good of a chance of that as there is Manningham whipping out an OSU LOI on 2/2. | |
