I read an article by one of the major news companys that said Charlie stayed on the field along time after the game congratulating OSU players.

Weis had serious bargaining power (the NFL calling him back) that Tyrone did not have.
That was the reason for his extension.
That and it took Tyrone half a season to score a their first TD...

Are you sure he wasn't on the field arguing with the refs for a penalty when we walked on the field with 15 seconds (or so, can't remember the exact number) left up two TDs...thus interrupting the short passing game that was moving the Domers on down the field?
