Whatever you do, stop partying longt enough to drop into St. John Arena and watch TBDBITL warm up, about an hour before kickoff. There's a chance the Buckeyes could loose the game, but the band will win in a walk.

I just thought it was widely known as a home and home series... but I guess I've just been brainwashed. Zurp, go to a UM game Skull Session and see what its like
I bet it will be pretty jacked up for the texas game too...Last edited by jwinslow; 02-20-2008 at 07:09 PM. |

~this one and PSU are VERY winnable, almost a slamdunk. ya'll are amazing. Look, you may very well beat Texas in sept. but to call this a virtual slamdunk is ignorant at best. Rankings can be argued, atmospheres can be argued, the passing ability of VY can be argued. The difficulty of this game between tOSU and UT CANNOT BE ARGUED. Texas is returning almost their entire team as is tOSU, both are top 5-10 teams and both will be ready to play. To put the longhorns in the same category as psu shows very little knowledge of college football over the past 5 years.
On another note, texas will not have the problems at running back that everyone seems to think that they will. Selvin Young was considered, by more than a few people, to be the best running back on the team when he was a sophmore. Barring injury Texas will be just fine. Also, while I agree that stopping VY is priority #1 when trying to beat Texas, I will say that using a spy is not the way to do it. There is not a linebacker in the country that can stop VY by himself. I would suggest watching the Red River Shoutout from last year and watch the way that OU's entire D played perfect assignment football. If you dont have everyone doing their job, VY will find the crease and rack up the yards. That being said tOSU is more than capable of doing this, it is just a matter of executing. Regardless, I can't wait and I hate the offseason. Looking forward to hanging around the board for a while |

For some lame reason... they started using Home and Home here.... Here's a great example of how no one knows how to use these terms, in this article... the Princeton (yes the Ivy league one) refers to a series with the Citadel as "Hone and Home" and then the Citadel Athletics Director calls it "home and away" I'm glad I went to Ohio State. http://goprincetontigers.collegespor...020805aaa.html Last edited by jwinslow; 02-20-2008 at 07:10 PM. |

First, welcome aboard.
Next, I would suggest replacing the "y'all" with "some of you" as blanket generalizations don't go very far around here. Then, "CANNOT BE ARGUED" is a foolish statement in itself...opinions vary and anything can be argued...it is the intelligence of the argument that is questionable. I happen to agree with your assessment of importance and competitiveness of the game itself, but others may not. Finally, I agree completely about the VY and assignment football. tOSU has seen VY-like players in the past few years and not one has had success. Vince may be the best of the bunch, but he, like the tOSU defense, will have his hands full on 9/10. |

I'm putting Texas and PSU in the same category for a few reasons: 1) Playing at the Horseshoe early in the season is VERY tough for almost any team, especially one that has a few questions. I'm sure Selvin Young is a great back, but he is unproven; 2) Ohio State's coaches have a good track record of preparing the team for big matchups, especially non-conference games (2002: Washington State, scUM, Miami; 2003: Washington, Kansas State; 2004: NC State, scUM, Okie St.); 3) Penn State has a kick-ass defense; if they had had any offense whatsoever the last several years they would have made a few nice bowl appearances; 4) PSU has played us very tough lately, especially in State College; and 5) Penn State will have longer to develop a consistent offense and better their chances against us. All these factors put an early road game for Texas at the Shoe on at least a similar level as a mid-season trip for tOSU to State College. P.S. I have a lot of respect for Texas. I'm sure my calling them a possible slamdunk has something to do with the Longhorns "on paper." When the teams hit the field you can throw all that out the window. It just seemed to me that tOSU has an above-average chance to win this one, that's all. |

I agree that the Buckeyes have the edge. Should be that way though. You guys are at home.
On another note are there sports bars that are close to the stadium if we are not willing to shell it out for a ticket? I think my friends and I may just tailgate and wait it out and see if somehow reasonable ticket prices come to us the closer to kickoff we get. If not then that sucks but I guess I will save a few hundred dollars for the trip while I am up there. |

Welcome, HornIn. There are several bars along Lane Ave. where you can watch the game. There's also a huge outdoor screen at the place called HineyGate in front of the Holiday Inn on Lane. Recent regulations mean that you have to be careful with open containers when outside, though; they have to remain in designated areas or you could get hit with a fine.
By the way, nice picture of the State Fair. I like the Burnt Orange on the one side, but what's with all that Crappy Crimson on the other? |

ok now that I have sucessfully blown my first impression let me try agian
1) I never ment for ya'll to be a blankett statment encompassing the whole board. Truth be told I am very impressed. 2) Ignorant was a strong word (maybe a mistake) but I just cannot comprehend how anyone could think that this would be an easy game for either team. 3) While I will agree that it is very "winnable", I would argue that with the team that tOSU will field this year, you do not have an un"winnable" game on the schedual. I would also argue that the same could be said for Texas 4) as for the other horns on here that think that selvin will not be productive, I guess we will just have to agree to disagree. I see everyone on hornfans talking about how he is a scatback, and how he wont run between the tackles, but the fact is that 2 years ago people raved about the way he hit the hole like he was shot out of a cannon(somthing that cedric still hasnt quite got ahold of) Short of injury(which would be the reason that i am forced to refer to 2 years ago) selvin will be a top tier back. 5) Say what you will about psu, they might play you close and they might have a good defense but they are not comperable to texas. If you want to use that arguement then I will say that Kansas played us close and is on the rise with a solid defense. We both know that kansas sucks at football and as of last year so does penn state. 6) I like the fact that ya'll, in general, seem to be more confident and assertive group than your big 11 brethren from UM. They always seemed to treat football as if we should sip tea, eat crumpets, and watch a jolly good match. I am not looking to make friends here any more than I am looking to [censored] people off. All I am doing is trying to talk about what I can only call the best out of confrence matchup In the bcs era. It will be a dog fight and I am counting the days. on another note, I just noticed the spell check button, so if my previous posts are riddled with mistakes, i apologize |
