Good, I hope Texas comes into the Shoe confident, why shouldn't they? They're going to walk with that confident Texas swagger in to Ohio, but they will limp home.
"Poof" That will be the sound of Vince Youngs heisman campaign after he gets picked off 3 times and held to under 50 yards of rushing. |

What? A chip-on-their-shoulder post from Texas fans?
Well.. Now.... I've seen it all. I agree with Mega that Young isn't a fraud. Still, and also in accord with Mega, Ohio State's LB's aren't likely to get punked out of their shoes like Michigan's LB's did. Ohio State has faced multi-faceted QB's before, and has shut them down. I have little doubt Ohio State will be ready for Young. Let em think what they want. Hell, I remember Texas Tech people yippin and yappin about how they'd walk all over OSU in 02. There has never been a shorter Heisman campaign than Kliff Kingsbury's. Those chippy Texas people can learn the same lesson. (OF course, they won't, they'll simply make excuses, but Ohio State - by beating them - can only do so much) |

Richard McNutt's Heisman campaign lasted longer than Kliff Kingsbury's.

Can't remember who said it, but during a pre Rose Bowl sports show some talking TV head stated, "Mack Brown and LLLody Carr are the two most overrated coaches in the country."
Hmmmmm. |

I'm telling you guys, I wouldn't worry here. Texas is a good team, but how many times has a very hyped non conference team come into the Shoe and gotten their asses kicked? It's like a damn broken record.

Texas lost Benson...now they are in the same situation...no proven RB

very true, one thing we have that they don't is recieving to go along with a talented QB. I like our chances if we just penetrate their very good O-line and get to V. Young. However, with a defense like ours I just hope we play to ability that night.

I'm confidant that JT will do what is necessary to mentally prepare these guys for the Texas game (and we can't overlook the Miami game, gotta win that one first). This kind of brings up another point I've been thinking about. Playing huge opponents for pre-conference games seems antithetical to Tressel's concept of opening up the playbook as the year progresses. Assuming Tressel does indeed gradually open the playbook (as opposed to the players' individual skills improving, allowing for more risky plays), if we have to pull out all the big plays for Texas to get a W, could we be at a disadvantage against Michigan and the opponent for the bowl game? Because of this will we see different play calling from JT? All this speculation makes me so anxious for next year. |

Here's what I think on that subject (opening up the playbook) Washington State in 2002 and Northwestern in 2004 show what I think JT is going to do against Texas. I think he's gonna still hold some stuff back (for the record, I draw a strong distinction between holding things back and refusing to pass the football or spread the offense.) Washington State was a big game, and it showed that JT was not afraid to hold the reins tightly in a huge early game. Granted, it helped tremendously to have Clarett rushing for 200+ in that game, but still, they were down at the half, and JT still didn't throw all his cards on the table to win that game.
The Northwestern game though, seems to show that when his back's up against the wall early in the season, he's willing to take some substantial risks. After they went down 14, the playcalling opened up a great deal, and the offense improved as a consequence. Hopefully, we don't find ourselves in that situation against Texas. |

OhioNole,
which message board are you talking about? In the one I frequent (which has by far the most traffic - 31,000 registered members) the few people who have shown overconfidence in regards to the game or tried to perpetuate the "Big 10 is slow" myth have quickly been chastised, corrected, and educated. It always seems the least educated of the fans to talk that kind of smack. The rest of us are expecting a tough, tough game in Columbus. I won't be surprised if we do win (because I absolutely LOVE the Horns' prospects for next season), but I'd put the odds against us at this point. And for those bringing up our lack of big road games, that goes for all big programs unfortunately. I do commend tOSU for having played home-and-home series with NCSt and WSU recently, but neither of these compare with a roadtrip to the Horseshoe, as y'all would no doubt agree. Seriously, which of the top programs schedule tough series with other top programs? Not many. I wish it would happen more often, because I can't wait to come to Columbus. The anticipation is already killing me! As for Vince Young, he's had plenty of doubters, even many Horns. Most vanished after the Rose Bowl. Say what you will, but the dude's a winner. Like I mentioned in another thread, the guy shows the same knack for being clutch that Craig Krenzel did. I am sure Jim Tressel will not underestimate him. EH |

Hey, mack brown has been kissing up to Ohio coaches for years, Tressel will just be the most recent recepient.
![]() Kudos to o-state for this. Sorry in advance, but since we can't play each other for a while, I'll stoop to a new low (feel free to fire back any good tressel farks, if they're well done I will admit they are funny): ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by BuckeyeFROMscUM; 01-31-2005 at 10:12 PM. |
