Mack's always whispering like that to opposing head coaches after games. I wish he'd stop, it's a little creepy. And a little gay.

OSU's linebackers can defend Texas's TE's

OSU's linebackers and DB's are better than Michigans

OSU's defense is alot better than Michigans

If Texas kicks the ball to Ginn like they did Breaston Ginn will take 1 maybe 2 kicks to the house

If Texas doesn't get a better defense we will put up at least 37

If they think Michigans WR corps was tough just think what Ginn, Lyons, Holms, and Gonzo are gonna do.

Troy Smith may not be as good as Young but he presents similar problems for their defense

Tressel vs. Brown is not even close

Home field advantage

I like the Buckeyes big

Brutus, interesting analysis. I'll address the points one by one.

OSU's linebackers can defend Texas's TE's
Agreed. Y'all have some awesome LBers, no doubt. I still think David Thomas gets a few catches though, but for the most part will be held in check.

OSU's linebackers and DB's are better than Michigans
Linebackers, yes. But DB's? Better than Shazor and Jackson? I don't know much about your secondary (I'm sure it's better than solid), but it doesn't get much better than two AA's.

OSU's defense is alot better than Michigans
Agreed. But even the best defenses lapse once or twice a year. I'm hoping the lapse is against us.

If Texas kicks the ball to Ginn like they did Breaston Ginn will take 1 maybe 2 kicks to the house
I'm thinking the special teams problems will be fixed. That was our glaring weakness last year. It will be addressed, but yes, I do NOT want to see Ginn return any kicks. Kicking out of bounds and starting at the 35 would be preferable.

If Texas doesn't get a better defense we will put up at least 37
True, Our defense did not have a very strong showing. In that you're correct. But UM did only manage ~330 yards of offense. Not bad. Their touchdown drives were for the most part 50 yards or less thanks to the aforementioned poor kick coverage. Not to mention the gift of a fumbled punt. But down the stretch, they did what they had to do.

If they think Michigans WR corps was tough just think what Ginn, Lyons, Holms, and Gonzo are gonna do.
No argument here.

Troy Smith may not be as good as Young but he presents similar problems for their defense
Agreed

Tressel vs. Brown is not even close
Tressel>Brown as a game day coach, but I don't think it's that big of a disparity. Other than Stoops, and Bill Doba last year in the Holiday Bowl, he hasn't ever really been grossly outcoached.

Home field advantage
Yep. Not many venues as intimidating as the Horshoe.

I like the Buckeyes big
Thinking objectively, I'd say the Buckeyes win a close one, say 24-17. With my orange-tinted glasses, I like Texas 21-20.

It seems as though your perception of Texas is based almost solely on the Rose Bowl. Can't blame you, there's probably not too much Big 12 exposure in Ohio.

Shazor is AMAZINGLY overrated. He was virtually non-existant in the biggest two games of the year (The Game and The Bowl).
Jackson is good, but got beat all day by Holmes, who is not as dominant as Edwards (who was shut down ALL day by Youboty, his big catch came vs. Fox who is graduating).

Nope not much big12 exposure up here.

I saw the Red River Showdown this past year, and despite the fact that a blanking by OU is not at all indicative of what the Longhorns are capable of accomplishing on offense, I must say that I was tremendously unimpressed with Vince Young's throwing skills. This might have had something to do with the pressure of the game or the pressure of the Oklahoma front, but I saw a form and accuracy that simply was inexcusable for a 5-star starter and all-Texas athlete. Five yard outs were thrown into the ground, throws downfield had no chance, etc.

Now, the N.C. State game for us had a similar performance by a highly-rated QB (Zwick might have thrown for just over 100 yards), so I really don't know what to expect from either Young OR Zwick next year, but I fan easily say that both of these players really need to develop their accuracy and decision-making in the off-season if they are going to lead their respective teams on to a glorious 2005.

BTW Engineer, thanks for your input and interest in the board.

OSU must make the running QB try to beat the Bucks by throwing the ball. El Roberson, Mike Vick, or Vince Young, the game plan is the same. Make the running QB try to beat you with the pass.

Oh God no. *vomit*

But I guess I will on one condition: we base our collective perception on y'all's game with northwestern last year.

See, that's what sucks about regional coverage. I missed most of the Buckeyes' late season dominance, while you folks missed the 49-points-in-31-minutes explosion against Okie State, among other things.

Like your posts E-Horn. I saw little of Vince Young except the Okie game, the Rose Bowl and Sports Center highlights. What I saw in the Rose Bowl impressed me. He's big, fast and takes the hits without going down. Michigan LBs and DBs played two miserable games last year, against you and against ND. I can't explain the first, but the second was clearly an inability to tackle Young.

IF JT is playing for the National Championship, then I like our chances this year and next. If he's going to do a Woody and save it all for the Big 10 season then I will want to go hide somewhere till it all goes away.

If our D line can't put pressure on Young and seal off the outside we're in for a very long day, Horseshoe or no Horseshoe.

What I will guarantee you is that the Pride of the Buckeyes, TBDBITL, will blow you away. Make it to St John Arena before the game and be sure and be in your seat when they come on the field the first time. They're smaller than your band, but its all brass and percussion, spit and polish, pride and hard work and the sound will be memorable. And wait till you hear the reception the Buckeye fans give them. You have a chance in the game, but the band comparison? No Doubts, TBDBITL in a blow out!

If you are talking Cowtown and North 'Horn then your assessment is spot on.
Down in the SouthWest corner I get a fair shake at seeing SEC & some B12 / ACC games (particularly if the timing is good - Buckeyes @ noon, other conference in 2nd game). We always get to see RR Shooutout and the B12 championship. Other than that it is all highlights.

No matter, this game in the Shoe is going to be awesome. Tickets will be at a premium.

I watched that Texas/Ok-St game, two completely different halves. That amazing turnaround reminded me of the 1974 USC-ND game where 24-0 ND, just before the half, ended up 55-24 after Anthony Davis scored 6 TD's.

I also saw the Texas-Kansas game, where a questionable interference call, combined with a Vince Young Houdini act on 4th down allowed Texas to stay alive for the BCS bid. I remember Mangino's quotes after the game, saying that the Big-12 wanted Texas to win the game in order to get the second BCS bid for the conference.

I think I saw 5 Longhorn games this season (A&M, Oklahoma and the Rose Bowl being the others), but I wish I could see more Big-12 games. Only get a chance to see 1 or 2 a week.

That was the national Big 12 game on TBS, got to watch the gem of a game, was impressed with the way you guys came back and won that from 35-3 down.

Texas was actually down 35-7. I'm making the distinction because if they had been down 35-3. it would have broken the largest comeback in Div-1 history, which is 31 points. Co-held by 1984 Maryland over Miami (Frank Reich as QB), and 1989 tOSU over Minnesota (down 31-0, won 41-37).

See, that's what sucks about regional coverage. I missed most of the Buckeyes' late season dominance, while you folks missed the 49-points-in-31-minutes explosion against Okie State, among other things.
I watched the Okie State-Texas game. It was pretty funny.
