For those of you thinking blowout
I'm not so sure.
Remember, JT's teams start slow. Remember early last year? They needed a 55-yarder at the buzzer to beat Marshall. This is going to be one of those games where defense takes over. OSU 16 Tejas 13 Either way, this game won't be decided mid-way through the 4th quarter. |

Last year's team was very young. They started slow cuz everyone was new, and a lot of guys that needed to be replaced were still starting.
In 02, tOSU came out like a rocket. People quickly forgot about the offensive explosions and huge point totals in the first half of '02 before Clarett got hurt. We were putting up big numbers, and it wasn't merely due to turnovers. I don't think we are going to come out crawling like we did last year. Our only positions that are being replaced are RB (Pittman will do fine), 1 OL (Boone or one of the returning guys will fill this void fine), 1 DB (see other thread; but we've got lots of experience to fill a boundary tackler position), 1 DE (the hardest to fill, but we've got a few guys that should do alright). We'll miss Nuge and Turano (even tho he wasn't always great) for sure. But expect to see a Texas team quite surprised by the defensive skill and speed by the bucks. Likewise, the longhorn "defense" will have a lot of trouble slowing down our trio of speedsters at WR. Remember this is a team that couldn't slow down OkState/UM to save their lives. The fact that they gave up 5 straight 50 yard run backs is exciting to me as a buckeye fan. Give Ginn one shot like that and its a TD guaranteed. |

If Vince Young doesn't get out of the pocket much, it will be a long day for the Horns. I have seen quite a few of Texas' games and he tends to blow the easy pass quite often. If he does that against our secondary...it's either going to get ugly for the receivers, or be going the other direction.
I like Pitcock in the backfield all day as well as a LOT of outside blitzing from Snyder & Co. Just keep that contain and we should be ok. Youboty is a very sound tackler as are (obviously) Whitner and Salley (as long as he wraps low). I think that if our D plays its game and stays off the zone, we'll be alright. Man-to-man could be huge in this game as it is now known that Young is not the most accurate QB in CFB. If we can play man and keep 7-8 guys in the box for the majority of the game, forget about it. I'm not worried about our offense. Special teams should give us great field position all day in that if they're not kicking to Ginn, they're kicking it short and out of bounds which is nice as well. Though if they do kick to Ginn and don't straighten out that ST hiccup from last year, they're in big trouble. We'll get no less than 21 and take it from there I think. Tress is smart enough that he knows he has to score touchdowns now with Nuge gone and hopefully that'll boost our scoring a bit - and not just for the Texas game either, but for the season. |

All I have been hearing and reading is " TEXAS TEXAS TEXAS " I just hope everyone can keep focused "especially the team " so that they don't get bitch slapped a week before "TEXAS" comes to town.
FOCUS, FOCUS, FOCUS. |

Hopefully the team will listen to Tress and not to the media/fans when looking to next season...and they'll go into the UT game riding a win. |

Why we'll win
In 1903 Texas played Texas School for the Deaf and only won by 17 points:
http://cfbdatawarehouse.com/data/div...hp?teamid=3208 Even better, they have a losing record to a D-III school!!! http://cfbdatawarehouse.com/data/div_ia/big12/texas/vs_conf_opponents.php?confid=215 Last edited by BuckeyeFROMscUM; 02-24-2005 at 02:50 AM. |

I have a plan.
1. We inform the texans that we once had a holstein cow as our homecoming queen (damn ag students) 2. The texans, being texans, will blithely assume that we hold the cow in quite high regard. 2b. Since we are fond of cows, a longhorn steer must be like unto a minor deity, from our point of view. 3. The texans will prominantly display Bevo, expecting us to be befuddled by his glory, thus failing to actually oppose them during the game. 4. The overconfidence implicit in the above statement will render the 'Horns' players incapacitated when our guys do, in fact, proceed to kick ass. 5. All thunderstruck (or Schlegel-struck... whichever), the 'horns will fail to perform until late in the fourth quarter, at which point our 3rd string D (mostly RS Frosh) will give up a token pity TD.... maybe. Whaddaya think? Oh, and for you non-believers? http://library.osu.edu/sites/archive...qs.htm#Maudine |

Strategies to Beat Texas
So I was wondering what strategies people have to beat Texas next year.
I'd like to see the Bucks stop the run first, and force Vince Young to throw or scramble. scUM didn't have a bad strategy, but they didn't have enough team quickness to deal with Young (or Troy Smith for that matter). To combat that I wonder if the Bucks will shadow him with some of our ultra-quick players, like a quick outside linebacker. I'm wondering if the team would put someone like Ginn on him. Anyone else have something to share? |
