How is it that Texas will be ranked ahead of us come Gameday? It seems to me that of all the tough games this year (Texas, Iowa, @Penn St., @scUM), this one and PSU are VERY winnable, almost a slamdunk. Yes, VY is a great athlete and they'll have a solid OL, but I don't see them as one of the top 5 teams in the country. Too many questions (WR and RB) to give them that kind of credit. I realize it's early and those pre-season polls are just to get discussion going, but odds are they'll still be ranked right up near the top when Sept. 10 rolls around. Any ideas why they sit ahead of us right now? We be stacked!

Welcome Thackattack!
I'll tell you why they're ranked ahead of us: 1. Popularity of recruiting classes 2. Popularity of the Big 12 3. Unpopularity of the Big 10 4. Unpopularity of tOSU 5. Makes our ass-kicking administration that much more impressive. Preseason polls are a glorious thing. Absolutely worthless, but the subject of so much interest during the dull months that we call "baseball season". |

Good call Yertle! I agree, having a nice ranking around 2 or 3 makes us stomping them that much sweeter! CAN NOT wait til April 23!

I don't know it off hand, but I remember seeing the top 10 times posted at the WHAC. They have the top 10 40 times, top 10 benches, and top 10 squats posted on giant boards over there. I think Galloway has the fastest 40 (I want to say 4.25), MoC has the top Squat (around 750 lbs!!!), and Kudla now has the top bench (I think it's 555 lbs).
If I remember correctly, Groom was on the top 10 40 times. A frigging punter had one of the top 10 fastest 40 times recorded at tOSU! DAMN! |

I don't think you will EVER see Tressel take chances, however, I think he will have devised a number of ways to get his playmakers (Ginn, Holmes etc.) the ball.
Go Bucks!!! In Tress We Trust. |

Rankings
Personally, I think Tressel and Co. like the lower rankings. It keeps our team hungry and out for respect. Heck, I think he's the one who reigns in our horses more than anyone. I don't mind being ranked behind UT.

Yeah, IIRC we started out '02 ranked #13. Not sure if that had anything to do with that little title run we reeled off, but my guess is it would motivate a team.

Link JAWS DROP AT GALLOWAY'S FAST 40 NEWCOMER DAWKINS SEES TALES OF SPEED ARE NO EXAGGERATION.(Sports) Seattle Post-Intelligencer (Seattle, WA); 4/24/1999; Farnsworth, Clare <!-- START BODY --> Sean Dawkins had heard tales about how fast Joey Galloway is and even seen his acceleration on televised highlights. But the Seahawks' newest receiver wasn't ready for what he witnessed yesterday, when the players were tested in the 40-yard dash before going through two minicamp practices. ``I just saw it,'' Dawkins said, exploding in laughter. As his eyes widened to the size of two fried eggs, he added, ``I was like this, just looking at the clock.'' Galloway's time was 4.15 seconds for 40 yards. Even with a rolling start, that is fast by any standard. Link The Bucs finally have such a player. Here is Joey Galloway, who once clocked a 4.1 in the 40-yard dash. Here is the receiver who became the league's scariest weapon when he broke in with Seattle. <!-- END BODY --> |

I got those numbers off a Virginia Tech fan and also saw it on Va Techs home web page. I'll be going to their spring game to get my fix of football (rather be home in the shoe tho). SO I'll tell you how Marcus looks.

September 10th
Hi there Buckeye fans. I don't really have much to add to all of the talk about the September game that I'm sure hasn't already been discussed on here already but I wanted to introduce myself and say I can't wait to make it up to Columbus. I am coming up on September 9th with a group of 7 or 8 guys to do some drinking and watch some college football and I can't wait. I love night games and I was very excited to hear this one is an ABC primetime matchup . Plenty of time for everyone to party and watch all the appetizer games earlier in the day.
Horn fans are extremely pumped to have a nonconference game of this magnitude. Since we joined the Big XII the nonconference heavyweights have slowly but surely vanished from the schedule so this home and home series is very refreshing. As for the game itself we are still so far out it is hard to get a true feel for the game except that both teams look to be bringing back a lot of talent to their 05 rosters. I would venture to say this is the better Texas team that the Buckeyes will face in the home and home due to the number of lineman coming back this year but we will just have to wait and see. I am not predicting a victory for the Horns with all things considered but I don't look for the Buckeyes to run away with it either. I think this should be a very tough win for whoever takes it. Anyway I guess we have a little under 6 months left to discuss. That sucks! |

Good to hear from you. It is refreshing indeed to see a Home and Home series like this in an era of top teams going the way of Auburn.
