That doesn't sound like Tressel to me - to give a rat's ass what the pollsters think.

Yeah, I think Tressel is starting to see the big picture that if we dont win every game like the 02 season, we got to run up the score a bit, not take out our starters too early and pad stats against ranked opponents any chance we can. This is very un-Tressel-like, but I agree with him that a small opponent like Illinois wont help our BCS chances if we win by a TD or two, we gotta put a spanking on them for 4 quarters to make the nation notice that we play offense here at OSU and are a worthy candidate for a BCS bid if we dont get the nod after winning the Big Ten.

But Illinois should be a practice for next weekends game against NW.

I think you'e right but I also think he wants a BCS bowl and I think he will do what it takes to get one. That's what I like about him, he is goal-oriented and very capable of weighing all the influences on attaining his goal.

I'd love to see us pitch a shutdown for a change. A nice, old-fashioned, Woody-type 63-0 demolition would be sweet.

I'm with ya! That would be sweet! Preferably 63-0 at the half or early 3rd quarter! Then let everybody play!

Who has the turtle? Illinois shouldn't have it, unless it only counts games in Columbs. Illinois won in 2001. Ohio State won in 2002, in Illinois. I don't remember 2003, except that only Wisconsin and the bad guys beat Ohio State in 2003, so Ohio State shouldn't have lost any Turtles. Only NW, Purdue, Wisconsin, and Iowa beat the Bucks in 2004. Why shouldn't Ohio State have the turtle?

Illinois has the trophy. It is passed between the first and second quarter of the following game. Ohio State won in 2002, but presented the Illibuck to the Illini during that game for the result of the 2001 contest. Ohio State will actually receive the trophy this year.

Bad theory, sorry.

Tressel doesn't need to "try" to run up the score. Short of ordering players to take a knee, he's going to be hard pressed to not blast the Illini into dust.

In fact, the Bucks could come out hung over from the Minny game, and looking ahead to NU and scUM, and still hang 21 on Illinois in the first quarter.

We agree that the computer ratings used by the BCS do not take margin of victory into account. However, most of the ratings do, such as the normal Sagarins. We also agree that Tressel doesn't need to try to run up the score!

On the other hand, he better not hold it down and try to play Mr. Niceguy. We have to cover the computer spreads or we will slide in the computer rankings.

My point is that the non-BCS computer polls have an indirect effect on the human pollsters by affecting what the press have to say. I think we will start hearing about how Ohio State has played the toughest schedule, if we win out.

We have four weeks before the season is over for most teams. In that time, if we are in the top four in the computer ratings that use margin of victory, then the press will increasingly talk this up and I think it could have an effect on the human polls. If the effect is minor, just one place, that could make all the difference.

Dryden is correct about the current status of the turtle. It's our turtle, but they've been holding it for us since 2002, having ducked us in 2003 and 2004.

Maybe they're hoping that we'll forget or something, but Ohio State fans are not the types to forget that we're entitled to a carved wooden turtle. It's really a very nice trophy -- much nicer than that stupid jug that Michigan and Minny play for.

I'm not sure if Frost is ready for the starting job... He missed a couple key blocks in the Indiana game, and I haven't had time to review the Minny game...

Any thoughts on that sitaution?

I think Frost is ready, if you are not sitting watching the game, thinking about damn why did he miss that block or things of that nature, usually the TE is having a good game.

He had one catch for 6 yds last week and I am happy to see him out on the field.
