Thad has competion for top 2006 class

A good chance Ohio State may end up with the second rated class. Great makings of a good ACC Big 10 Challange.

Coveted power forward Brandan Wright committed to North Carolina on Sunday afternoon, giving the Tar Heels another gem in their star-studded recruiting class.
<TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=3 width=173 align=right border=0><TBODY><TR><TD></TD></TR><TR><TD class=caption>Brandan Wright's commitment gives North Carolina the top recruits at three different positions. ( / Scout.com)</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
Wright, the nation's top power forward and No. 5 prospect overall according to Scout.com, gives the Tar Heels the top-ranked player at three different positions in the class of 2006. In addition to Wright, the Tar Heels have also landed Wayne Ellington (the top shooting guard) and Tywon Lawson (the country's highest-rated point guard).
"I was surprised," one source told Scout.com Sunday afternoon. "I would have thought Vanderbilt would get him before North Carolina."
In the recruiting world, the conventional wisdom was that UNC was fourth on a four-team list. Taking it a step further, if Wright was headed to the ACC, then it was thought that Duke would be the choice.
Sunday, according to multiple sources, Wright set about the business of spreading the word. At least one school received a telephone call and another was hit with a text message. The news was the same across the board: Wright committed to UNC.
The 6-foot-9 stud out of Nashville (Tenn.) Brentwood Academy is the third member of Scout.com's Top 10 to pick the Heels. Ellington, No. 4, and Lawson, No. 8, also are joined in North Carolina's 2006 class by No. 22 Deon Thompson and No. 58 Alex Stepheson. William Graves, once a Top 100 prospect himself, rounds out what should quickly be recognized as the top recruiting class in America.
Thompson is the No. 3 center among 2006 prospects, according to Scout.com, and Stepheson is No. 13.
An athletic forward who reminds some of a young Chris Bosh, Wright moves well on the court, is an energetic rebounder and shot-blocker and smooth offensively. Vanderbilt, Kentucky and Duke were the other finalists for Wright.

they have a nice class, but they don't have the best prospect since some #33 that played for MSU, or the years of experience they have together from their AAU days.

Bring it UNC. You're stacked, but Thad is gonna be bringing it starting this year. We're gonna give you hell if you start scheduling us in 2006. It only gets worse after that

Wow, I haven't been following the Heels much lately. Didn't realize they were assembling such talent this year.

Basketball seasons are starting to look way up for me. I've always been OSU first, Carolina second. Both are looking golden. That'd be awesome if we could get some matchups against them.

Never thought I'd see the day where OSU could take on UNC in basketball! Go Bucks!!!

NC is in an interesting situation with all the talent they lost last season - including their top SEVEN scorers. They return only one player who averaged more than 5 minutes per game last season. Like OSU they have only 10 scholarship players and FIVE of those are true Frosh. They don't have a Center on their roster. That is a hell of a rebuilding task.

It could be a very painful season for NC - particularly when they play Duke. Painful indeed.

2006 will be a different story.

******

Quick update on NCs status. One of those incoming Frosh tore cartilage in his knee during practice and could miss up to a month.

Which freshman got hurt for UNC ? I would much rather see Duke succeed than UNC. BTW, on their board; not only are they talking smack about OSU; but say we could lose our BB recruits. They have always been arrogant pricks; whereas, Duke fans have class.
